Free NAATI CCL Punjabi Mock Test 12: Tenancy Dispute and Diabetes Review
We built this paper around the two things advanced candidates lose marks on: a legal instruction that must survive as an instruction, and a clinical number that must survive as a number. Sit it and you will find out whether you soften "you must keep paying rent" into friendly advice, and whether an HbA1c of 8.9 against a target of 7 comes out of your mouth as two separate figures.
What this paper is built to expose
Advanced — legal, clinical or financial terminology under load. Every mock test in this library is written around specific, nameable failure points rather than being a random conversation — so the score you get tells you what to fix, not just whether you passed.
- 1keeping a binding legal instruction binding instead of downgrading "you must" into "you should probably"
- 2carrying two dates that do the same grammatical job (3 June, 14 August) without swapping or merging them
- 3rendering a clinical result and its target as two distinct numbers rather than one vague "too high"
- 4holding a symptom list and its required action together, so the hypo advice arrives as a procedure with a sequence
- 5interpreting dietary advice for a Punjabi household without substituting Australian foods the speaker never mentioned
Sit the test
Model answers stay hidden until each dialogue is finished. Afterwards you mark yourself against 90 individual information units and the same 36-plus-9 split NAATI uses. The full transcript is further down the page whenever you want it — but read it before you sit, and the number stops meaning anything.
16 segments. Two dialogues. One take.
This runner keeps every model answer hidden until you finish a dialogue — the full transcript is further down the page, and reading it first is the one thing that makes your score meaningless. Interpret every segment out loud, as if someone is waiting for the meaning. Then mark yourself against the real criteria: 36 marks for accuracy, 9 for language quality, per dialogue.
Free, no account, nothing to install. Your score is saved on this device only.
Before you start
- Speak, do not think itInterpreting silently is a different skill from producing sound under pressure.
- Do not pause the segmentThe real test does not wait. Pausing turns a measurement into a rehearsal.
- Record yourself if you canYour phone's voice memo app is enough. It is the only way to hear your own hesitations.
- Mark harshlyAn assessor who has never met you certainly will.
How this mock test is scored
NAATI marks each CCL dialogue out of 45, split into two things that are assessed separately. The self-marking above mirrors that split exactly, which is what makes the number comparable to a real result rather than a guess.
Every fact, number, name, qualifier and instruction that has to cross into the other language. Omit one and it is gone; change one and it costs you again, because a distorted fact is worse than a missing one for the person relying on you.
Fluency, grammar and vocabulary, and register. This is where two candidates who conveyed identical content end up several marks apart — one sounded like an interpreter, the other sounded like they were guessing.
The rule that catches people: you need 63 out of 90 overall and at least 29 out of 45 on each dialogue. A brilliant legal & tenancy dialogue cannot rescue a weak health & medical one. How CCL scoring really works.

Unrepaired Leak: Breach Notice and a QCAT Application
Your brief. Mr Sandhu rents a house in Logan, south of Brisbane. The bathroom ceiling has been leaking since early June and the agent has done nothing. He has rung a free tenancy advice service, Tenants Queensland, and is speaking to an advisor through you. He wants the repairs done and he wants to know whether he can stop paying rent until they are.
Speakers: Tenancy advisor, Tenants Queensland (English) and Punjabi-speaking tenant (Punjabi). You interpret for both.
- 1. Ms Hollis, tenancy advisorEnglish Punjabi38 words
Thanks for calling Tenants Queensland. So the bathroom ceiling has been leaking since the third of June, you pay five hundred and thirty dollars a week, and nothing has been repaired. The first step is a written notice.
Tenants Queensland nu phone karan layi dhanvaad. taan bathroom di chhat tinn June ton cho rahi hai, tuseen hafte da panj sau teeh dollar kiraaya dinde ho, ate koi murammat nahin hoyi. pahila kadam hai likhti notice.
What must survive (6 marks of information)- the service is Tenants Queensland
- the leak is in the bathroom ceiling
- leaking since 3 June
- rent is $530 a week
- nothing has been repaired so far
- the first step is a written notice
Terms in this segment- to leak — ਚੋਣਾ chona
- repairs — ਮੁਰੰਮਤ murammat
- written notice — ਲਿਖਤੀ ਨੋਟਿਸ likhti notice
Where marks go here: "The third of June" becomes "three days" or "June" alone, and $530 comes out as $350. The date and the weekly rent are the two figures the whole application later rests on, and an assessor marks each of them separately.
- 2. Mr SandhuPunjabi English39 words
main agent nu tinn vaar phone keeta hai. ikk vaar plumber aaya, sirf dekh ke chala gaya. hun bedroom di kandh utte ulli hai ate meri dhee da dama vadh gaya hai. main kujh vi likh ke nahin bhejia.
Model interpretationI have phoned the agent three times. A plumber came once, just looked at it and left. Now there is mould on the bedroom wall and my daughter's asthma has got worse. I have not put anything in writing.
What must survive (5 marks of information)- phoned the agent three times
- a plumber came once but did no work
- mould is now on the bedroom wall
- the daughter's asthma has got worse
- nothing has been put in writing
Terms in this segment- mould — ਉੱਲੀ ulli
- asthma — ਦਮਾ dama
- agent — ਏਜੰਟ agent
Where marks go here: "ਤਿੰਨ ਵਾਰ" (three calls) and "ਇੱਕ ਵਾਰ" (one plumber visit) sit in consecutive sentences and get flattened into "a few times". The final admission that nothing is in writing is the reason the advisor gives the next instruction; drop it and the dialogue loses its hinge.
- 3. Ms Hollis, tenancy advisorEnglish Punjabi37 words
Then that is where we start. Download the Notice to Remedy Breach, Form Eleven, from the RTA website. Email it tomorrow, the sixth, and put the fourteenth of August as the date the repairs must be finished.
taan sanu itthon hi shuru karna pavega. RTA di website ton Notice to Remedy Breach, Form giaaraan, download karo. kallh, chhe tareek nu, email karo, ate chaudaan August di tareek likho jis takk murammat poori honi zaroori hai.
What must survive (5 marks of information)- the form is a Notice to Remedy Breach
- it is Form 11
- download it from the RTA website
- email it tomorrow, the sixth
- the repairs must be finished by 14 August
Terms in this segment- Notice to Remedy Breach — ਨੋਟਿਸ ਟੂ ਰਮੈਡੀ ਬ੍ਰੀਚ Notice to Remedy Breach
- RTA (Residential Tenancies Authority) — RTA RTA
- to download — ਡਾਊਨਲੋਡ ਕਰਨਾ download karna
Where marks go here: Candidates translate the form's name instead of keeping it. "Notice to Remedy Breach" and "Form Eleven" are how the tenant will find it on the RTA site, so a Punjabi paraphrase costs the proper noun and the number. The two dates here (the sixth for sending, the fourteenth for completion) do different jobs and must not be collapsed.
- 4. Mr SandhuPunjabi English39 words
je uh is notice nu vi nazarandaaz kar den taan ki hovega? agent kahinda hai ki ulli saade karke hai, aseen khirhkian nahin kholhde. mera dost kahinda hai ki jadon takk murammat na hove, kiraaya dena band kar dio.
Model interpretationWhat happens if they ignore this notice as well? The agent says the mould is our fault because we do not open the windows. My friend says I should stop paying rent until the repairs are done.
What must survive (5 marks of information)- asks what happens if the notice is ignored too
- the agent blames the tenants for the mould
- the agent's reason is that they do not open the windows
- a friend has advised stopping the rent
- the friend's advice is conditional on the repairs not being done
Terms in this segment- to ignore — ਨਜ਼ਰਅੰਦਾਜ਼ ਕਰਨਾ nazarandaaz karna
- window — ਖਿੜਕੀ khirhki
- rent — ਕਿਰਾਇਆ kiraaya
Where marks go here: This segment is reported speech twice over: what the agent says and what the friend says. Candidates who slide into first person make it sound as though the tenant himself is blaming his family or announcing that he will stop paying. Attribute both claims to their speakers.
- 5. Ms Hollis, tenancy advisorEnglish Punjabi41 words
Please do not. You must keep paying the full five hundred and thirty dollars every week. If you fall seven days behind, the lessor can issue a breach notice and start eviction, which becomes a separate case. Apply to QCAT instead.
bilkul na kario. tuhanu har hafte poora panj sau teeh dollar kiraaya dinde rahina zaroori hai. je tuseen satt din picchhe reh gaye, taan makaan maalak tuhanu breach notice de ke gharon kadhan di kaarvaayi shuru kar sakda hai, jo vakhra case ban javega. is di thaan QCAT kol arzi dio.
What must survive (6 marks of information)- you must keep paying, it is not advice
- the full amount, $530, every week
- seven days behind is the threshold
- the lessor can then issue a breach notice and start eviction
- that would become a separate case
- apply to QCAT instead of withholding rent
Terms in this segment- lessor — ਮਕਾਨ ਮਾਲਕ makaan maalak
- breach notice — ਬ੍ਰੀਚ ਨੋਟਿਸ breach notice
- QCAT (tribunal) — QCAT QCAT
Where marks go here: The costliest error in the whole paper. "You must keep paying" is an obligation with an eviction consequence attached; rendering it as ਚੰਗਾ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਜੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਰਹੋ ("it would be good if you kept paying") turns a warning into a suggestion and loses the modal mark plus the seven-day threshold that gives it teeth.
- 6. Mr SandhuPunjabi English35 words
theek hai, main kiraaya dinda rahanga. par tribunal nu main ki saboot devaan? mere phone vich tasveeraan han par uhnaan utte tareek nahin likhi. ki kiraaya ghat sakda hai, kiunki bathroom vartia hi nahin jaanda?
Model interpretationAll right, I will keep paying the rent. But what evidence do I give the tribunal? I have photos on my phone but there is no date written on them. Can the rent be reduced, because the bathroom cannot be used at all?
What must survive (6 marks of information)- he agrees to keep paying the rent
- asks what evidence the tribunal needs
- he has photos on his phone
- the photos carry no visible date
- asks whether the rent can be reduced
- the bathroom cannot be used at all
Terms in this segment- evidence — ਸਬੂਤ saboot
- photos — ਤਸਵੀਰਾਂ tasveeraan
- to be reduced — ਘਟਣਾ ghatna
Where marks go here: The undated photos are a problem, not a boast. Candidates render it as "I have photos" and drop the qualifier, which makes the advisor's next instruction about dated photographs sound like a repetition instead of a correction.
- 7. Ms Hollis, tenancy advisorEnglish Punjabi39 words
A rent reduction order can backdate your rent to the day you reported the leak, but it will not force the repair. Bring dated photographs, your emails and the condition report. Tick the interpreter box; QCAT arranges one free.
kiraaya ghataun da hukam tuhada kiraaya us din ton ghata sakda hai jis din tuseen leak di shikaayat keeti si, par uh murammat karva nahin sakda. tareek vaalian tasveeraan, aapnian emailaan ate haalat report lai ke aaio. dubhaashie vaale khaane vich nishaan laao; QCAT muft dubhaashia dinda hai.
What must survive (6 marks of information)- a rent reduction order can backdate the rent
- backdated to the day the leak was reported
- it will not force the repair itself
- bring dated photographs, the emails and the condition report
- tick the interpreter box on the form
- QCAT provides the interpreter free
Terms in this segment- rent reduction order — ਕਿਰਾਇਆ ਘਟਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ kiraaya ghataun da hukam
- condition report — ਹਾਲਤ ਰਿਪੋਰਟ haalat report
- interpreter — ਦੁਭਾਸ਼ੀਆ dubhaashia
Where marks go here: This segment is built on a can/cannot pair. Candidates deliver the good news about backdating and then soften "it will not force the repair" into "it may take time", which is a different fact entirely. Three separate documents are named; "paperwork" scores one where three were available.
- 8. Mr SandhuPunjabi English37 words
samajh gaya. main kallh form email kar diaanga, chaudaan August takk udeek karanga, ate har hafte kiraaya dinda rahanga. sunvaayi vich mainu Punjabi dubhaashie di lorh pavegi. par mainu dar hai ki agent sanu gharon kadh devega.
Model interpretationI understand. I will email the form tomorrow, wait until the fourteenth of August, and keep paying the rent every week. I will need a Punjabi interpreter at the hearing. But I am afraid the agent will evict us.
What must survive (5 marks of information)- he will email the form tomorrow
- he will wait until 14 August
- he will keep paying the rent every week
- he will need a Punjabi interpreter at the hearing
- he is afraid of being evicted
Terms in this segment- hearing — ਸੁਣਵਾਈ sunvaayi
- to evict — ਘਰੋਂ ਕੱਢਣਾ gharon kadhna
Where marks go here: A three-part read-back plus a new worry. Candidates relax on recap segments and lose the date a second time, or they let the closing fear disappear because it feels like small talk. The fear is new information the advisor has not addressed and is fully scoreable.
Register and cultural mediation in this dialogue
- Australian tenancy machinery has no Punjabi equivalent, so RTA, QCAT and Form 11 stay in English inside the Gurmukhi. Translating them leaves the tenant unable to find the form, and an assessor treats a lost proper noun as a lost information unit.
- The advisor and the tenant have never met, so ਤੁਸੀਂ is required throughout in both directions. Tenants often address a female advisor as ਭੈਣ ਜੀ; that warmth belongs to the client's turn only and should not be exported into the advisor's English.
- Punjabi tenants routinely take advice from relatives and friends first, and the friend's "stop paying rent" is a real piece of community folklore. The interpreter must keep it as reported speech and must not let the advisor's refusal of it sound rude, only firm.

Diabetes Review: Starting Insulin and Avoiding Hypos
Your brief. Mrs Randhawa has had type 2 diabetes for six years and has come to her general practice for a scheduled diabetes review with the practice nurse. Her latest blood test is back and it is above target. The nurse will do the annual checks, start her on insulin, teach her what to do if her sugar drops, and talk about food. You are interpreting.
Speakers: Practice nurse running the diabetes review (English) and Punjabi-speaking woman with type 2 diabetes (Punjabi). You interpret for both.
- 1. Nurse BennettEnglish Punjabi39 words
Your HbA1c came back at eight point nine. That is your average sugar over three months, and we want it under seven. I will check your feet today, and your eyes must be checked yearly, not every two years.
tuhada HbA1c atth dashmalav naun aaya hai. ih tinn mahinian di ausat shugar hundi hai, ate aseen is nu satt ton hethaan rakhna chaahunde haan. ajj main tuhade pair dekhaangi, ate tuhadian akkhaan har saal check honian zaroori han, har do saal baad nahin.
What must survive (6 marks of information)- HbA1c is 8.9
- HbA1c is the three-month average sugar
- the target is under 7
- feet are being checked today
- eyes must be checked every year
- yearly, not every two years
Terms in this segment- HbA1c / average sugar — ਔਸਤ ਸ਼ੂਗਰ ausat shugar
- target — ਟੀਚਾ teecha
- feet — ਪੈਰ pair
Where marks go here: Two numbers, one result and one target, sitting three clauses apart. Candidates who say "your sugar is high and we want it lower" lose both. The final contrast is also scoreable on its own: yearly instead of every two years is the change, and dropping "not every two years" removes the point of saying it.
- 2. Mrs RandhawaPunjabi English37 words
mainu taan koi takleef nahin hundi. main Metformin savere te raat nu laindi haan, par raat vaali goli aksar bhull jaandi haan. meri bhain kahindi hai ki teeka shuru karan da matlab hai gurde kharaab ho gaye.
Model interpretationI do not have any trouble at all. I take metformin in the morning and at night, but I often forget the night tablet. My sister says that starting injections means your kidneys have failed.
What must survive (5 marks of information)- she has no symptoms at all
- she takes metformin morning and night
- she often forgets the night tablet
- her sister believes injections mean the kidneys have failed
- the belief is attributed to the sister, not the patient
Terms in this segment- tablet — ਗੋਲੀ goli
- injection — ਟੀਕਾ teeka
- kidneys — ਗੁਰਦੇ gurde
Where marks go here: "Metformin" must survive as a drug name; candidates render it as ਸ਼ੂਗਰ ਦੀ ਗੋਲੀ and the nurse loses the only medication detail she has. The sister's belief must stay attributed to the sister, otherwise the patient sounds as though she is stating a medical fact.
- 3. Nurse BennettEnglish Punjabi39 words
Insulin does not mean kidney failure. You will start ten units of long acting insulin at nine each night. The tablets work with your food; the insulin works around the clock, so take it even if dinner is late.
insulin da matlab gurde kharaab hona nahin hunda. tuseen raat naun vaje lamme samen vaali insulin de das unit shuru karoge. golian khaane naal kamm kardian han, par insulin chauvi ghante kamm kardi hai, is layi roti late khaani hove taan vi teeka laao.
What must survive (6 marks of information)- insulin does not mean kidney failure
- ten units
- long acting insulin
- at nine each night
- tablets work with food, insulin works around the clock
- take the insulin even if dinner is late
Terms in this segment- insulin — ਇਨਸੁਲਿਨ insulin
- units — ਯੂਨਿਟ unit
- long acting — ਲੰਮੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਾਲੀ lamme samen vaali
Where marks go here: The dose and the time are two facts, and "long acting" is a third that explains why the timing rule works. Candidates who say ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਟੀਕਾ ਲਾਓ have given a vague instruction instead of ten units at nine, and the contrast between tablets and insulin, which is the whole reason a late dinner does not matter, disappears.
- 4. Mrs RandhawaPunjabi English38 words
meri guaandhan nu teeka lagda hai. pichhle mahine uh kamban lagg payi, murhka aa gaya ate diggdi diggdi bachi. je mere naal vi is tarhaan ho gaya taan main ki karaan? main din vele ghar ikkalli hundi haan.
Model interpretationMy neighbour has injections. Last month she started shaking, she broke out in a sweat and she nearly fell over. What should I do if that happens to me? I am home alone during the day.
What must survive (6 marks of information)- the neighbour has injections
- it happened last month
- the neighbour was shaking and sweating
- she nearly fell over but did not
- asks what to do if it happens to her
- she is home alone during the day
Terms in this segment- shaking — ਕੰਬਣੀ kambani
- sweat — ਮੁੜ੍ਹਕਾ murhka
- neighbour (female) — ਗੁਆਂਢਣ guaandhan
Where marks go here: "ਡਿੱਗਦੀ ਡਿੱਗਦੀ ਬਚੀ" means she almost fell, not that she fell. Candidates upgrade it to a collapse and hand the nurse a false clinical history. Being home alone is not filler either; it is the reason she is asking, and the hypo instructions that follow have to work for someone with nobody there to help.
- 5. Nurse BennettEnglish Punjabi35 words
That is a hypo, when your sugar drops below four. If you shake, sweat or feel confused, you must take fifteen grams of quick sugar, half a glass of juice, wait fifteen minutes and retest.
is nu haaipo kahinde han, jadon shugar chaar ton hethaan digg jaandi hai. je kambani lagge, murhka aave jaan samajh na aave, taan tuhanu pandraan graam tez khand laini zaroori hai, addha glass juice, phir pandraan mint udeek ke dubaara test karo.
What must survive (6 marks of information)- it is called a hypo
- a hypo is sugar below 4
- symptoms: shaking, sweating or confusion
- you must take 15 grams of quick sugar
- half a glass of juice is the example given
- wait 15 minutes, then retest
Terms in this segment- hypo / low blood sugar — ਹਾਈਪੋ, ਸ਼ੂਗਰ ਘਟਣਾ haaipo, shugar ghatna
- to retest — ਦੁਬਾਰਾ ਟੈਸਟ ਕਰਨਾ dubaara test karna
Where marks go here: Three numbers, all different: below four, fifteen grams, fifteen minutes. Candidates merge the two fifteens or attach the wrong unit to each. "You must" is again an instruction, not a suggestion, and the sequence take, wait, retest has to arrive in that order to be usable.
- 6. Mrs RandhawaPunjabi English37 words
khaane da ki karaan? saade ghar roti, chaul te daal bandi hai, ate har cheez vich ghio painda hai. viaahaan ate gurduaare vich mithaai hundi hai. mera pati kahinda hai ki hun saara Punjabi khaana chhadd de.
Model interpretationWhat should I do about food? At our house we make roti, rice and dal, and everything has ghee in it. There are sweets at weddings and at the gurdwara. My husband says I should give up all Punjabi food now.
What must survive (5 marks of information)- asks what to do about food
- the household eats roti, rice and dal
- ghee goes into everything
- sweets appear at weddings and at the gurdwara
- her husband says to give up all Punjabi food
Terms in this segment- roti / flatbread — ਰੋਟੀ roti
- ghee — ਘਿਓ ghio
- sweets — ਮਿਠਾਈ mithaai
Where marks go here: Candidates helpfully convert roti to "bread", dal to "lentil soup" and mithaai to "dessert", which erases the actual diet the nurse needs to hear. Keep the food names. The husband's blanket instruction is reported speech and must not become the patient's own plan.
- 7. Nurse BennettEnglish Punjabi38 words
You do not have to give up your food. Have two rotis at dinner instead of four, half the ghee, and no sugar in your chai. Sweets at a wedding are fine occasionally. Come back in three months.
Model interpretation
tuhanu aapna khaana chhaddan di lorh nahin. raat nu chaar di thaan do rotian khaao, ghio addha karo, ate chaah vich khand bilkul na paao. viaah vich kade-kade mithaai khaani theek hai. tinn mahine baad dubaara aaio.
What must survive (6 marks of information)- she does not have to give up her food
- two rotis at dinner instead of four
- half the ghee
- no sugar in the chai
- sweets at a wedding are fine occasionally
- come back in three months
Terms in this segment- chai / tea — ਚਾਹ chaah
- occasionally — ਕਦੇ-ਕਦੇ kade-kade
- follow-up — ਦੁਬਾਰਾ ਮਿਲਣਾ dubaara milna
Where marks go here: "No sugar in your chai" is absolute and "occasionally" is a limit; candidates swap them, producing less sugar in the tea and unrestricted mithaai. That single swap reverses the nurse's advice while sounding fluent, and the follow-up interval is often lost at the end of a long segment.
- 8. Mrs RandhawaPunjabi English38 words
theek hai bhain ji. raat naun vaje das unit, kambani lagge taan addha glass juice, do rotian, ate tinn mahine baad test. Sangraand vaale din main varat rakhdi haan, us ton pahilaan main clinic nu phone kar lavaangi.
Model interpretationAll right, sister. Ten units at nine at night, half a glass of juice if I start shaking, two rotis, and a test after three months. I fast on Sangrand, so I will ring the clinic before that day.
What must survive (6 marks of information)- ten units at nine at night
- half a glass of juice if she starts shaking
- two rotis
- a test after three months
- she fasts on Sangrand
- she will ring the clinic before that day
Terms in this segment- Sangrand — ਸੰਗਰਾਂਦ Sangraand
- to fast — ਵਰਤ ਰੱਖਣਾ varat rakhna
Where marks go here: A four-item read-back that candidates rush because it is repetition. Every item is still scoreable. ਸੰਗਰਾਂਦ should be kept as the name of the day with a brief gloss such as the first day of the Punjabi month; replacing it with "a religious day" loses a proper noun and hides why she is asking.
Register and cultural mediation in this dialogue
- Dietary advice is where this dialogue is won or lost. Punjabi roti is already made from wholemeal atta, so the standard Australian line about switching to wholemeal is meaningless here; the levers the nurse actually pulls are the number of rotis, the quantity of ghee, and the sugar in the chai. Interpret what she says, not the generic advice you expect her to give.
- Do not substitute Australian foods for Punjabi ones. Turning roti into "bread", dal into "soup" or mithaai into "dessert" gives the nurse a false picture of the household and destroys the countable unit, two rotis instead of four, that makes her advice followable.
- Refusing food at a wedding or in the gurdwara langar carries real social cost, and mithaai is offered as blessing and hospitality rather than as a treat. The nurse's "fine occasionally" is a calibrated permission; hardening it into a ban or loosening it into approval both misrepresent her, and the patient will act on whichever version she hears.
Diabetes Review: Starting Insulin and Avoiding Hypos — glossary (14 terms)
Learn these before you sit the paper a second time. More health & medical vocabulary.
| English | Punjabi | Transliteration |
|---|---|---|
| HbA1c / average sugarThe three-month average. Say HbA1c and gloss it, as the nurse does; do not drop the term for the gloss alone. | ਔਸਤ ਸ਼ੂਗਰ | ausat shugar |
| target | ਟੀਚਾ | teecha |
| diabetesAustralian Punjabi speakers say ਸ਼ੂਗਰ, not the textbook ਮਧੂਮੇਹ. Use the community word. | ਸ਼ੂਗਰ | shugar |
| metformin (tablet) | ਮੈਟਫਾਰਮਿਨ | Metformin |
| insulin | ਇਨਸੁਲਿਨ | insulin |
| unitsInsulin is dosed in units. Converting to millilitres or "drops" is a clinical error, not a stylistic one. | ਯੂਨਿਟ | unit |
| long acting | ਲੰਮੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਾਲੀ | lamme samen vaali |
| hypo / low blood sugarBelow 4 mmol/L. Do not confuse with ਸ਼ੂਗਰ ਵਧਣਾ, high sugar, which needs the opposite response.
| foot checkPart of the annual diabetes cycle of care, done because reduced sensation hides injuries.
| sweetsRendered as "sweets", not "dessert"; in this dialogue they are wedding and gurdwara food, not an after-dinner course. | ਮਿਠਾਈ | mithaai |
Marking yourself is the slow way
It works, and it is free — but it takes twenty minutes per dialogue and it depends on you being honest about what you actually said. Inside the course you record your answer, and it is transcribed and scored against the model automatically, segment by segment, with the information you dropped highlighted. 112 dialogues across every CCL domain, unlimited scored mock tests, and a vocabulary bank that resurfaces the terms you keep missing.
No card to start. The free papers here stay free either way.
Questions about this mock test
- Can the tenancy dialogue really include an eviction warning, or is that too harsh for a CCL test?
- It is exactly what a CCL paper does. Legal dialogues are built around consequences, because consequences are where modality lives. The examiner wants to hear whether "you must keep paying" survives as an obligation with a seven-day arrears threshold attached, or whether you quietly turn it into friendly encouragement.
- Do I have to know what QCAT and the RTA are before I sit this test?
- You do not need to know the law, but you do need to keep the names. QCAT is the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal and the RTA is the Residential Tenancies Authority. Both are proper nouns the tenant will need in order to act, so translate around them, never over them.
- How do I interpret the name of a form like Notice to Remedy Breach?
- Keep the English name and, if the flow allows, add a three-word gloss the first time it appears. The tenant has to find that exact form on a government website; a Punjabi paraphrase, however elegant, leaves them searching for something that does not exist and costs you the proper noun.
- Do medical dialogues in the CCL test use technical terms like HbA1c?
- Yes, and this paper deliberately does. The convention is to keep the clinical term and carry the speaker's own plain-language gloss with it, so HbA1c plus "your average sugar over three months" is the full rendering. Dropping the term or dropping the gloss each loses a scoreable unit.
- Should I translate Punjabi food words into English when the patient describes her diet?
- No. Roti, dal, ghee and mithaai are all used in Australian English clinical settings, and the nurse's advice counts rotis rather than slices of bread. Substituting familiar Australian foods misrepresents the household and breaks the link between what the patient eats and what the nurse prescribes.
- Why does this test have a tenancy dialogue and a health dialogue rather than two of one kind?
- Every real CCL paper draws its two dialogues from different domains, and this pairing is chosen because both turn on instructions with consequences. One threatens eviction, the other threatens a hypo. If you soften instructions under pressure, you will see it happen twice in one sitting.
Sit another paper
One mock is a data point; two are a trend. Pick a domain you have not practised — a real test will not let you choose.
Before you sit the real one
