NAATI CCL test fees — what it actually costs
The headline number is around AUD $814 per sitting. The number that decides whether the CCL is expensive or cheap is the second one — because there is no re-sit discount, and a fail means paying the full fee again.

The amounts below were checked against NAATI’s published fee schedule for 1 July 2026 – 30 June 2027 and include GST, but NAATI states that prices are subject to change without notice. Treat them as planning numbers, not quotes.

The break-even: preparation is insurance on the fee
Treat preparation as an extra cost and it looks like money you’d rather not spend. Treat it as insurance against a second ~$814 sitting and the arithmetic inverts. Here is the honest version:
Two sittings at the full fee, plus roughly two to three months lost waiting on two result cycles.
One sitting plus a $59 3-Month Pass. You are ahead the moment preparation moves your pass probability by more than about seven percentage points.
That seven-point figure is just the fee divided by the fee — $59 against ~$814 is roughly 7%. We are not going to pretend we can quote you a pass rate; nobody honestly can. But the threshold at which prep pays for itself is genuinely that low, and that is the whole argument.
The costs people forget to budget for
The second attempt
By far the largest hidden cost. There is no re-sit discount, so a fail turns an ~$814 test into an ~$1,628 one — everything else on this page is rounding error next to it. NAATI does not publish a CCL pass rate, so treat any percentage you read online as anecdote; plan around the pass mark instead, and around the fact that a second attempt is not cheap.
The delay, not the dollars
Results take roughly 4–6 weeks. Miss a pass and you wait for the next available window, then another 4–6 weeks for the result. If your visa points, your invitation round or an age bracket depend on that credential, the calendar cost can dwarf the fee.
Preparation you'd buy anyway
Almost nobody walks in cold. Whether it's a coaching centre, a tutor, a book or an online course, budget something here — the only question is how much, and whether it actually reduces your re-sit risk.
Equipment and setup
The test is sat online with a headset and a stable connection. If you don't own a decent USB or wired headset, that's a real (small) cost — and a bad microphone genuinely costs marks on fluency.
