Free NAATI CCL Punjabi Mock Test 16: Citizenship Application and a Dental Treatment Plan
We built this paper around two things assessors love and candidates hate: a stack of similar-looking time limits, and two treatment options that sound alike but cost thousands of dollars apart. Sit it and you will find out whether your numbers survive a whole dialogue, or whether they quietly merge into each other by segment six.
What this paper is built to expose
Intermediate — institutional language and multi-part answers. Every mock test in this library is written around specific, nameable failure points rather than being a random conversation — so the score you get tells you what to fix, not just whether you passed.
- 1Holding four separate time limits apart: four years of residence, twelve months of absence, ninety days in the final year and forty two days already used
- 2Carrying an if-then conditional about the nerve across a clause boundary without flattening it into a statement of fact
- 3Keeping two competing dental treatment paths, and the dollar figures attached to each, from bleeding into one another
- 4Reproducing four dental item numbers as digits, in the order given, without rounding or dropping one
- 5Separating a permission from an obligation: you may resit the test, but you must answer all five values questions correctly
Sit the test
Model answers stay hidden until each dialogue is finished. Afterwards you mark yourself against 88 individual information units and the same 36-plus-9 split NAATI uses. The full transcript is further down the page whenever you want it — but read it before you sit, and the number stops meaning anything.
16 segments. Two dialogues. One take.
This runner keeps every model answer hidden until you finish a dialogue — the full transcript is further down the page, and reading it first is the one thing that makes your score meaningless. Interpret every segment out loud, as if someone is waiting for the meaning. Then mark yourself against the real criteria: 36 marks for accuracy, 9 for language quality, per dialogue.
Free, no account, nothing to install. Your score is saved on this device only.
Before you start
- Speak, do not think itInterpreting silently is a different skill from producing sound under pressure.
- Do not pause the segmentThe real test does not wait. Pausing turns a measurement into a rehearsal.
- Record yourself if you canYour phone's voice memo app is enough. It is the only way to hear your own hesitations.
- Mark harshlyAn assessor who has never met you certainly will.
How this mock test is scored
NAATI marks each CCL dialogue out of 45, split into two things that are assessed separately. The self-marking above mirrors that split exactly, which is what makes the number comparable to a real result rather than a guess.
Every fact, number, name, qualifier and instruction that has to cross into the other language. Omit one and it is gone; change one and it costs you again, because a distorted fact is worse than a missing one for the person relying on you.
Fluency, grammar and vocabulary, and register. This is where two candidates who conveyed identical content end up several marks apart — one sounded like an interpreter, the other sounded like they were guessing.
The rule that catches people: you need 63 out of 90 overall and at least 29 out of 45 on each dialogue. A brilliant immigration & settlement dialogue cannot rescue a weak health & medical one. How CCL scoring really works.

Citizenship Application: Residence, the Test and the Pledge
Your brief. A settlement worker at a migrant resource centre in Blacktown is taking a Punjabi-speaking permanent resident through his citizenship by conferral application. He is anxious because he spent months in India after his father died, and because his brother recently failed the citizenship test. The worker checks the residence rule against his travel, explains the test format and pass mark, and sets out what happens at the interview and the ceremony.
Speakers: Settlement worker at a migrant resource centre (English) and Punjabi-speaking permanent resident applying for citizenship (Punjabi). You interpret for both.
- 1. Ms HargreavesEnglish Punjabi35 words
Before we lodge your citizenship application, let me set out the residence rule. You must have lived here lawfully for four years, and the final twelve months of that must be as a permanent resident.
tuhadi citizenship di arzi bharan ton pahilan main tuhanu rihaish di shart samjha dindi haan. tuhada ithe kanooni taur utte chaar saal rehna zaroori hai, ate inhaan vichon aakhri baaraan mahine pakke vasneek vajon hone chahide han.
What must survive (5 marks of information)- this happens before the application is lodged
- the residence rule is being explained
- four years of lawful residence required
- the last twelve months of the four years
- those twelve months must be as a permanent resident
Terms in this segment- citizenship — ਨਾਗਰਿਕਤਾ naagrikta
Where marks go here: Candidates render this as "four years as a permanent resident", which is a different and much harder rule. The four years is lawful residence on any valid visa; only the final twelve months are the permanent residence period. Merging them costs two marks and misinforms the client.

ise gall da mainu fikar hai. mere pita ji di maut ho gayi si, te main do hazaar chauvi vich panj mahine Jalandhar riha. pichhle December vich vi chhe hafte gaya si. ki meri arzi radd ho javegi?
Model interpretationThat is exactly what I am worried about. My father passed away, and I stayed in Jalandhar for five months in 2024. I also went for six weeks last December. Will my application be refused?
What must survive (6 marks of information)- this rule is exactly his worry
- his father passed away
- five months in Jalandhar
- that stay was in 2024
- a separate six-week trip last December
- asks whether the application will be refused
Terms in this segment- to be worried — ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਹੋਣਾ fikar hona
- to pass away — ਮੌਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਾ maut ho jaana
- to be refused — ਰੱਦ ਹੋਣਾ radd hona
Where marks go here: Two absences, two units. Candidates hear "five months" and "six weeks" one clause apart and produce a single vague "a few months away". The year 2024 and the month December are also separate scoreable facts, so a lazy "a couple of trips recently" can lose four marks in one segment.
- 3. Ms HargreavesEnglish Punjabi40 words
Twelve months in total across the four years, so five months plus six weeks is well under the limit. But only ninety days are allowed in the final year. You have used forty two, so you have forty eight left.
chaar saalan vich kull baaraan mahine baahar reh sakde ho, is layi panj mahine ate chhe hafte hadd ton kaafi ghatt han. par aakhri saal vich sirf nabbe din di ijaazat hai. tusin biali din varat laye han, so athtali baaki han.
What must survive (5 marks of information)- twelve months total absence across four years
- his five months and six weeks are under that limit
- only ninety days allowed in the final year
- forty two days already used
- forty eight days remaining
Terms in this segment- in total — ਕੁੱਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਕੇ kull mila ke
- limit — ਹੱਦ hadd
- permission / allowed — ਇਜਾਜ਼ਤ ijaazat
Where marks go here: This segment carries four numbers that all describe time away, and the twelve months here is absence, not the permanent residence period from segment one. Candidates who already said "twelve months as a PR" now say it again and the client hears one rule instead of two. Ninety minus forty two must come out as forty eight, not "about fifty".
- 4. Mr SandhuPunjabi English39 words
shukar hai. ki mere bachchian layi vakhri arzi laggegi? dhee baaraan saal di hai ate puttar pandraan da. mera bhraa test vichon fail ho gaya si. ih vi dasso ki interview vaale din main kihrhe kaagaz lai ke jaavaan.
Model interpretationThank goodness. Will my children need a separate application? My daughter is twelve and my son is fifteen. My brother failed the test. Please also tell me which documents I should bring on the day of the interview.
What must survive (6 marks of information)- relieved by the answer
- asks whether the children need a separate application
- daughter is twelve
- son is fifteen
- his brother failed the test
- asks which documents to bring to the interview
Terms in this segment- separate — ਵੱਖਰੀ vakhri
- documents / papers — ਕਾਗ਼ਜ਼ kaagaz
- to fail — ਫ਼ੇਲ੍ਹ ਹੋਣਾ fail hona
Where marks go here: The two ages are the trap: twelve and fifteen both sit under the sixteen-year threshold the worker is about to quote, so a candidate who renders them as "my children are young" destroys the link to the next segment and loses two numbers at once. Do not upgrade "my brother failed" into "my brother's application was refused".
- 5. Ms HargreavesEnglish Punjabi40 words
Children under sixteen go on your application at no extra charge and do not sit the test. For your interview bring your passport, your Indian birth certificate and your driver licence. The test is twenty questions in forty five minutes.
solan saal ton chhote bachche binaan vaadhu fees tuhadi hi arzi vich shaamal ho jaande han ate uh test nahin dinde. interview layi aapna passport, bhaarti janam certificate ate driver licence lai ke aaio. test vich veeh sawaal hunde han ate pantali mint milde han.
What must survive (6 marks of information)- children under sixteen included on the parent's application
- no extra charge for the children
- children do not sit the test
- bring passport, Indian birth certificate and driver licence
- twenty questions in the test
- forty five minutes allowed
Terms in this segment- no extra charge — ਬਿਨਾਂ ਵਾਧੂ ਫ਼ੀਸ binaan vaadhu fees
- to be included — ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋਣਾ shaamal hona
- birth certificate — ਜਨਮ ਸਰਟੀਫ਼ਿਕੇਟ janam certificate
Where marks go here: Three documents are listed and candidates habitually deliver two, or replace "Indian birth certificate" with a generic "birth certificate". The threshold is sixteen, not fifteen; saying "children under fifteen" would exclude this client's son, which is a factual error the assessor marks hard.
- 6. Mr SandhuPunjabi English34 words
paas hon layi kinne sawaal sahi karne painde han? ate je main fail ho gaya taan ki saari arzi dubaara bharni pavegi? main sunia hai ki kadraan keemtaan vaale sawaal bahut aukhe hunde han.
Model interpretationHow many questions do I have to get right to pass? And if I fail, do I have to lodge the whole application again? I have heard the values questions are very hard.
What must survive (4 marks of information)- asks how many correct answers are needed to pass
- asks what happens if he fails
- specifically whether the whole application must be lodged again
- has heard the values questions are very hard
Terms in this segment- to pass — ਪਾਸ ਹੋਣਾ paas hona
- values — ਕਦਰਾਂ ਕੀਮਤਾਂ kadraan keemtaan
- again / a second time — ਦੁਬਾਰਾ dubaara
Where marks go here: The second question is narrow: he is not asking "what happens if I fail" in general, he is asking whether the whole application has to be redone. Candidates who broaden it lose the qualifier and the worker's answer then looks like a non sequitur. "I have heard" is hearsay and must stay hearsay, not become a statement of fact.
- 7. Ms HargreavesEnglish Punjabi39 words
Fifteen of the twenty, seventy five percent, and all five Australian values questions must be correct. If you fail you may resit at no extra cost. You become a citizen only when you make the pledge at the ceremony.
veeh vichon pandraan, yaani pajhattar feesdi, ate Australian kadraan keemtaan vaale panje sawaal sahi hone zaroori han. je tusin fail ho jao taan binaan vaadhu kharche dubaara de sakde ho. tusin sirf udon naagrik bande ho jadon samaaroh vich sahun chukde ho.
What must survive (6 marks of information)- fifteen correct out of twenty
- that is seventy five percent
- all five Australian values questions must be correct
- if he fails he may resit
- the resit costs nothing extra
- citizenship starts only at the pledge in the ceremony
Terms in this segment- percent — ਫ਼ੀਸਦੀ feesdi
- to resit / sit again — ਦੁਬਾਰਾ ਦੇਣਾ dubaara dena
- pledge — ਸਹੁੰ sahun
- ceremony — ਸਮਾਰੋਹ samaaroh
Where marks go here: Two modals pull in opposite directions in one segment: "must be correct" for the five values questions is an obligation, "may resit" is a permission. Candidates who render both as ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ turn a free second chance into a compulsory one. Fifteen, twenty, seventy five and five are four separate numbers, not one restated four ways.
- 8. Mr SandhuPunjabi English36 words
hun saaf ho gaya. main ise hafte aapne ImmiAccount raahin arzi bhar diaangaa ate samaaroh ton pahilan baahar nahin jaavaangaa. bass ih dass dio ki test paas karan ton baad samaaroh kinne chir vich hunda hai?
Model interpretationThat is clear now. I will lodge the application through my ImmiAccount this week and I will not travel before the ceremony. Just tell me how long after passing the test the ceremony is held.
What must survive (5 marks of information)- says the position is now clear
- will lodge through ImmiAccount
- will do it this week
- will not travel before the ceremony
- asks how long after the test the ceremony is held
Terms in this segment- through / by means of — ਰਾਹੀਂ raahin
- to lodge an application — ਅਰਜ਼ੀ ਭਰਨੀ arzi bharni
- how long — ਕਿੰਨੇ ਚਿਰ kinne chir
Where marks go here: ImmiAccount is a proper noun and must survive intact; candidates substitute myGov, which is a different portal and a factual error in an immigration dialogue. "This week" is a scoreable timeframe, and the final question is about the gap between passing and the ceremony, not about the ceremony date itself.
Register and cultural mediation in this dialogue
- The pledge of commitment has no settled Punjabi equivalent. ਸਹੁੰ ਚੁੱਕਣਾ carries a courtroom or gurdwara flavour, but it is the rendering the community understands, and it is far safer than inventing a phrase or reaching for ਵਾਅਦਾ, which sounds like a private promise rather than a legal act.
- A settlement worker and a client use ਤੁਸੀਂ in both directions. The client says ਪਿਤਾ ਜੀ for his late father and uses the respectful imperatives ਦੱਸੋ and ਦੱਸ ਦਿਓ when he asks for information; strip those endings back to ਦੱਸ and the register slips from respectful to blunt, which an assessor hears immediately.
- When a client mentions a parent's death, Punjabi speakers expect a word of sympathy, and candidates often supply one. In interpreting this is added content: render what was said, and let the professional decide whether to offer condolences.

Dental Treatment Plan: Crown or Implant
Your brief. A dentist in a suburban practice is presenting a treatment plan to a Punjabi-speaking patient whose lower right molar has cracked. There are two very different paths, one that saves the tooth and one that replaces it, and they differ by thousands of dollars. The patient is on an extras policy with waiting periods still running and needs to weigh the private quote, her health fund limit, the public dental waiting list and what to do about the pain today.
Speakers: Dentist at a suburban dental practice (English) and Punjabi-speaking woman with a cracked molar (Punjabi). You interpret for both.
- 1. Dr LombardiEnglish Punjabi40 words
The x-ray confirms a crack running through your lower right molar, tooth forty six. You have two options and they are quite different. We can save the tooth with a crown, or we can remove it and place an implant.
x-ray ton pakka ho gaya hai ki tuhadi hethli sajje paase vaali daarh, yaani dand number chhiaali, vich trerh hai. tuhade kol do raah han ate uh bilkul vakhre han. jaan taan asin crown paa ke dand bacha sakde haan, jaan dand kadh ke implant laa sakde haan.
What must survive (6 marks of information)- the x-ray confirms the crack
- lower right molar
- tooth forty six
- two options, and they are quite different
- option one: save the tooth with a crown
- option two: remove it and place an implant
Terms in this segment- crack — ਤ੍ਰੇੜ trerh
- molar — ਦਾੜ੍ਹ daarh
- to remove a tooth — ਦੰਦ ਕੱਢਣਾ dand kadhna
- implant — ਇੰਪਲਾਂਟ implant
Where marks go here: The tooth number is a proper identifier, not an approximation, and candidates who drop "forty six" leave the patient unable to check the quote. "Lower right" is also scoreable: reversing it to the left side changes which tooth is being treated. The two options must be delivered as two, joined by or, not blended into "we will fix the tooth".
- 2. Mrs BainsPunjabi English36 words
do haftian ton thandha paani lagdian hi darad shuru ho jaanda hai, ate sajje paase chabaaia nahin jaanda. main roz Panadol lai rahi haan. dovaan ilaajaan da kharcha kinna hai? saade kol bahute paise nahin han.
Model interpretationFor two weeks now, the moment cold water touches it the pain starts, and I cannot chew on the right side. I am taking Panadol every day. What do the two treatments cost? We do not have much money.
What must survive (6 marks of information)- symptoms for two weeks
- pain triggered by cold water
- cannot chew on the right side
- taking Panadol every day
- asks the cost of both treatments
- says money is limited
Terms in this segment- cold water — ਠੰਢਾ ਪਾਣੀ thandha paani
- to chew — ਚਬਾਉਣਾ chabauna
- cost / expense — ਖ਼ਰਚਾ kharcha
Where marks go here: The trigger matters clinically: cold water, not heat, not pressure alone. Candidates summarise it as "my tooth hurts" and the dentist loses the sign that points to the nerve. Panadol is a brand name and stays in English; "every day" is a frequency the dentist needs before recommending a different painkiller.
- 3. Dr LombardiEnglish Punjabi38 words
If the crack has reached the nerve you will need a root canal first, at $1,450, then the crown at $1,500. The implant path is $280 to extract and around $5,200 all up, over six to nine months.
je trerh naarhi takk pahunch gayi hai taan pahilan root canal karni pavegi, jis da kharcha chaudaan sau panjaah dollar hai, phir crown pandraan sau dollar da. implant vaale raah vich dand kadhan de do sau assi dollar ate kull mila ke takreeban bavanja sau dollar, chhe ton naun mahinian vich.
What must survive (6 marks of information)- root canal only if the crack has reached the nerve
- root canal costs $1,450
- crown costs $1,500 on top
- extraction costs $280
- the implant comes to around $5,200 all up
- implant path takes six to nine months
Terms in this segment- nerve — ਨਾੜੀ naarhi
- root canal — ਰੂਟ ਕੈਨਾਲ root canal
- all up / in total — ਕੁੱਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਕੇ kull mila ke
Where marks go here: Four dollar figures belong to two different plans, and the root canal is conditional on the nerve, not certain. Candidates who say the root canal ਕਰਨੀ ਪਵੇਗੀ without the ਜੇ turn a possibility into a bill. Note $5,200 is described as the whole implant path, while $1,450 and $1,500 are two separate charges that the patient must add herself.
- 4. Mrs BainsPunjabi English34 words
ih taan bahut vadda farak hai. saada HCF vaala extra cover hai, par asin sirf atth mahine pahilan hi jurhe si. ki tusin fund nu pahilan hisaab bhej sakde ho ki uh kinna denge?
Model interpretationThat is a huge difference. We have extras cover with HCF, but we only joined eight months ago. Can you send the fund an estimate beforehand so we know how much they will pay?
What must survive (5 marks of information)- the gap between the two quotes is very large
- she has extras cover, not hospital cover
- the fund is HCF
- they joined only eight months ago
- asks the dentist to send the fund an estimate first
Terms in this segment- difference / gap — ਫ਼ਰਕ farak
- extras cover — ਐਕਸਟਰਾ ਕਵਰ extra cover
- to join a fund — ਫ਼ੰਡ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਨਾ fund naal jurhna
Where marks go here: "Extras cover" is the specific product that pays for dental; rendering it as plain "insurance" or "Medicare" is wrong, since Medicare does not fund routine dental at all. Eight months is the fact that decides the waiting-period answer two segments later, so a vague "we joined recently" strands the dentist's reply.
- 5. Dr LombardiEnglish Punjabi38 words
I will send item numbers 415 and 613 for the crown path, and 311 and 661 for the implant, so the fund can pre-assess. Major dental has a twelve month wait, so you are covered in four months.
main fund nu crown vaale raah layi item number chaar sau pandraan ate chhe sau teraan, ate implant layi tinn sau giaaraan ate chhe sau ikaahath bhej diaangaa, taan jo fund pahilan hi andaaza de deve. vadde dental kamm utte baaraan mahine di udeek hundi hai, so chaar mahinian baad tuhanu cover milega.
What must survive (5 marks of information)- item numbers 415 and 613 belong to the crown path
- item numbers 311 and 661 belong to the implant path
- the numbers go to the fund for a pre-assessment
- major dental carries a twelve month waiting period
- she is covered in four months
Terms in this segment- item number — ਆਈਟਮ ਨੰਬਰ item number
Where marks go here: Four item numbers, two per plan, and the pairing is the marked content. A candidate who lists all four in a row without saying which belongs to the crown and which to the implant hands the patient a useless list. Twelve months is the waiting period; four months is what remains of it. Those are not the same number and must not be swapped.
- 6. Mrs BainsPunjabi English35 words
par saadi saalaana hadd sirf pandraan sau dollar hai ate uh pahili January nu navin hundi hai. mere pati kol pension card hai. ki sarkaari dental vich jaana sasta pavega? darad da hun ki karaan?
Model interpretationBut our annual limit is only fifteen hundred dollars and it resets on the first of January. My husband has a pension card. Would the public dental service be cheaper? And what do I do about the pain now?
What must survive (5 marks of information)- annual limit is fifteen hundred dollars
- the limit resets on the first of January
- her husband holds a pension card
- asks whether public dental would be cheaper
- asks what to do about the pain right now
Terms in this segment- annual limit — ਸਾਲਾਨਾ ਹੱਦ saalaana hadd
- to reset / start afresh — ਨਵੀਂ ਹੋਣਾ navin hona
- public dental — ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਡੈਂਟਲ sarkaari dental
Where marks go here: The $1,500 annual limit is easily confused with the $1,500 crown fee from segment three; they are different things that happen to match, and the assessor is watching for a candidate who says the fund will cover the crown. It is her husband who holds the pension card, not her, and the concession follows the card holder.
- 7. Dr LombardiEnglish Punjabi40 words
If his pensioner card covers you, public dental is heavily subsidised, but general care runs twelve to eighteen months and they extract, not crown. Chew on the left, take ibuprofen 400 milligrams with food, ring me if your face swells.
je unhaan da pensioner card tuhanu vi cover karda hai taan sarkaari dental bahut sasta painda hai, par aam ilaaj layi baaraan ton athaaraan mahine di udeek hai ate uh dand kadh dinde han, crown nahin paunde. khabbe paase chabaao, khaane naal chaar sau milligram ibuprofen lavo, ate je moonh sujj jaave taan mainu phone karo.
What must survive (6 marks of information)- subsidised only if his pensioner card covers her
- general care waits twelve to eighteen months
- public dental extracts the tooth rather than crowning it
- chew on the left side
- ibuprofen 400 milligrams with food
- ring the dentist if the face swells
Terms in this segment- heavily subsidised — ਬਹੁਤ ਸਸਤਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ bahut sasta painda
- milligram — ਮਿਲੀਗ੍ਰਾਮ milligram
- to swell — ਸੁੱਜਣਾ sujjna
Where marks go here: The opening is a condition, not a fact: the subsidy depends on whether her husband's card covers her, and candidates who drop the "if" promise her an entitlement she may not have. The public option is also cheap but delivers the opposite treatment to the one she wants, so dropping "not crown" leaves her believing she can get a crown free after a wait. The dose is 400 milligrams and it goes with food; a dose without its condition is an incomplete instruction.
- 8. Mrs BainsPunjabi English35 words
theek hai, main dand bachauna chaahundi haan. tusin fund nu crown vaale number bhej dio, implant vaale nahin. main chaar mahine udeek kar lavaangi. ajj aarzi bharaai kar dio ate likhti quotation vi de dio.
Model interpretationAll right, I want to save the tooth. Please send the fund the crown item numbers, not the implant ones. I can wait four months. Do the temporary filling today and give me a written quote as well.
What must survive (6 marks of information)- chooses to save the tooth
- send only the crown item numbers
- explicitly not the implant numbers
- willing to wait four months
- wants the temporary filling done today
- wants a written quote as well
Terms in this segment- temporary filling — ਆਰਜ਼ੀ ਭਰਾਈ aarzi bharaai
- written quote — ਲਿਖਤੀ ਕੋਟੇਸ਼ਨ likhti quotation
- to save a tooth — ਦੰਦ ਬਚਾਉਣਾ dand bachauna
Where marks go here: This is the segment that proves whether the two paths stayed separate. "The crown numbers, not the implant ones" is a contrast, and candidates who render it as "send the numbers to the fund" wipe out the patient's entire decision. Temporary filling today and written quote are two distinct requests, both scoreable.
Register and cultural mediation in this dialogue
- Private health cover has no equivalent in the Indian system most clients grew up with, so extras cover, annual limit and waiting period arrive as three unfamiliar ideas at once. The community solution is an English loanword inside a Punjabi frame, and that is what an assessor expects to hear.
- Punjabi speakers state large sums in hundreds rather than thousands: ਪੰਦਰਾਂ ਸੌ ਡਾਲਰ for fifteen hundred, ਬਵੰਜਾ ਸੌ for five thousand two hundred. Both forms are correct, but pick one convention and hold it for the whole dialogue so the patient can compare the quotes.
- The patient answers a question about her own care by invoking her husband's pension card, which is normal in Punjabi households where entitlements are treated as family assets. Interpret the reference exactly as given; do not tidy it into her own card.

Marking yourself is the slow way
It works, and it is free — but it takes twenty minutes per dialogue and it depends on you being honest about what you actually said. Inside the course you record your answer, and it is transcribed and scored against the model automatically, segment by segment, with the information you dropped highlighted. 112 dialogues across every CCL domain, unlimited scored mock tests, and a vocabulary bank that resurfaces the terms you keep missing.
No card to start. The free papers here stay free either way.
Questions about this mock test
- Do immigration dialogues in the NAATI CCL test really use legal wording like lawful residence?
- Yes. Settlement and visa dialogues are built out of departmental language, and this paper deliberately uses lawful residence, permanent resident, conferral and pledge. You are not expected to be a migration agent, but you are expected to keep those terms distinct from each other, because collapsing permanent resident into citizen changes the advice the client receives.
- How should I interpret dental item numbers like 415 and 613 into Punjabi?
- Say them as digits in the order given, and keep the label item number in English so the patient can repeat it to the fund. In this dialogue two numbers belong to the crown plan and two to the implant plan, so you must also carry which pair goes with which treatment. A correct list attached to the wrong plan is still a lost mark.
- What is the pass mark for this free mock test?
- The same as the real exam. Each of the two dialogues is worth 45 marks for a total of 90, you need 63 overall to pass, and you must score at least 29 on each dialogue. That floor is why a strong citizenship dialogue cannot rescue a collapsed dental one, and the self-scorer on this page shows both dialogue totals separately for exactly that reason.
- Should I convert ninety days into an actual date when I interpret?
- No. Interpret the unit the speaker used. The settlement worker says ninety days and forty two days used, and your job is to reproduce those figures, not to compute a calendar date the speaker never mentioned. Doing the arithmetic yourself is added content, and if you get it wrong you have also introduced an error the client may act on.
- Is it acceptable to keep English words like crown, implant and root canal in my Punjabi rendering?
- Yes, and it is usually the better choice. Australian Punjabi speakers use these loanwords in real dental appointments, and a patient who repeats crown at reception will be understood while one who repeats an invented Punjabi coinage will not. What assessors penalise is inconsistency: switching between an English term and a Punjabi one for the same concept inside one dialogue.
- Why does this paper pair a citizenship dialogue with a dental one?
- Because they stress the same muscle in two different ways. The citizenship dialogue stacks four time limits that all sound alike, and the dental dialogue runs two treatment plans side by side with their own price tags. If your numbers survive both, you are ready for the number density of a real CCL paper rather than just a well behaved practice one.
