Free NAATI CCL Punjabi Mock Test 11: Car Accident Claim and School Bullying Meeting
We built this paper around the two things assessors quietly count: money that changes depending on a condition, and a run of dates that must come out in the right order. Sit both dialogues cold and you will find out whether you carry an excess refund, a police event number and four separate school dates without flattening any of them.
What this paper is built to expose
Intermediate — institutional language and multi-part answers. Every mock test in this library is written around specific, nameable failure points rather than being a random conversation — so the score you get tells you what to fix, not just whether you passed.
- 1carrying a two-branch conditional where each branch has a different dollar figure
- 2holding four separate calendar dates in one dialogue without swapping them around
- 3distinguishing a formal warning from a suspension rather than blurring both into punishment
- 4keeping alphanumeric strings intact: a policy number, a registration and an event number
- 5rendering may versus must not so the candidate does not invent permission the speaker withheld
Sit the test
Model answers stay hidden until each dialogue is finished. Afterwards you mark yourself against 89 individual information units and the same 36-plus-9 split NAATI uses. The full transcript is further down the page whenever you want it — but read it before you sit, and the number stops meaning anything.
16 segments. Two dialogues. One take.
This runner keeps every model answer hidden until you finish a dialogue — the full transcript is further down the page, and reading it first is the one thing that makes your score meaningless. Interpret every segment out loud, as if someone is waiting for the meaning. Then mark yourself against the real criteria: 36 marks for accuracy, 9 for language quality, per dialogue.
Free, no account, nothing to install. Your score is saved on this device only.
Before you start
- Speak, do not think itInterpreting silently is a different skill from producing sound under pressure.
- Do not pause the segmentThe real test does not wait. Pausing turns a measurement into a rehearsal.
- Record yourself if you canYour phone's voice memo app is enough. It is the only way to hear your own hesitations.
- Mark harshlyAn assessor who has never met you certainly will.
How this mock test is scored
NAATI marks each CCL dialogue out of 45, split into two things that are assessed separately. The self-marking above mirrors that split exactly, which is what makes the number comparable to a real result rather than a guess.
Every fact, number, name, qualifier and instruction that has to cross into the other language. Omit one and it is gone; change one and it costs you again, because a distorted fact is worse than a missing one for the person relying on you.
Fluency, grammar and vocabulary, and register. This is where two candidates who conveyed identical content end up several marks apart — one sounded like an interpreter, the other sounded like they were guessing.
The rule that catches people: you need 63 out of 90 overall and at least 29 out of 45 on each dialogue. A brilliant insurance & super dialogue cannot rescue a weak education one. How CCL scoring really works.

Both dialogues in full: the source speech, the model interpretation in Gurmukhi with transliteration, the information units an assessor is counting, and the specific error each segment tends to produce.
Lodging a Car Accident Claim by Phone
Your brief. Mr Sandhu has rung his insurer's claims line after a collision at a suburban intersection two days earlier. A claims consultant takes him through what happened, who was at fault, the excess, the other driver's details and the police event number, then explains hire car cover, repairer choice and how long an assessment takes. You are the interpreter on a three-way phone call.
Speakers: Claims consultant, motor insurance call centre (English) and Punjabi-speaking policyholder whose car was hit at an intersection (Punjabi). You interpret for both.
- 1. Ms HardingEnglish Punjabi34 words
Thanks for holding, Mr Sandhu. I have your comprehensive motor policy open here, policy number CAR 44192. Before I lodge the claim, I need to know exactly what happened at the intersection on Tuesday.
hold karan layi dhanvaad, Sandhu ji. mere saahmne tuhadi comprehensive motor policy khulhi hai, policy number CAR 44192. claim daraj karan ton pahilan, mainu ih jaanana pavega ki mangalvaar nu chauraahe utte asal vich ki hoya si.
What must survive (6 marks of information)- thanks him for holding
- the cover is comprehensive motor, not third party
- policy number CAR 44192
- the claim has not been lodged yet
- wants exactly what happened at the intersection
- the incident was on Tuesday
Terms in this segment- comprehensive cover — ਕੰਪਰੀਹੈਂਸਿਵ ਬੀਮਾ comprehensive beema
- to lodge a claim — ਕਲੇਮ ਦਰਜ ਕਰਨਾ claim daraj karna
- intersection — ਚੌਰਾਹਾ chauraaha
Where marks go here: Candidates render "comprehensive" as plain "insurance" and lose the cover type, which the whole excess discussion later depends on. The policy number is one scoreable unit and must survive with its letters and all five digits.
- 2. Mr SandhuPunjabi English38 words
mangalvaar 28 julaai nu shaam de saadhe chaar vaje, main Wattle Road utte hari batti vichon siddha langh riha si. ikk safaid ute Dundas Street ton laal batti tapp ke aayi ate meri car de khabbe paase vajji.
Model interpretationOn Tuesday the twenty eighth of July at half past four in the afternoon, I was going straight through a green light on Wattle Road. A white ute ran a red light out of Dundas Street and hit the left side of my car.
What must survive (6 marks of information)- date is Tuesday 28 July
- time is 4:30 in the afternoon
- he was going straight on a green light
- he was on Wattle Road
- a white ute came out of Dundas Street through a red light
- impact was to the left side of his car
Terms in this segment- green light — ਹਰੀ ਬੱਤੀ hari batti
- to run a red light — ਲਾਲ ਬੱਤੀ ਟੱਪਣਾ laal batti tappna
- half past four — ਸਾਢੇ ਚਾਰ ਵਜੇ saadhe chaar vaje
Where marks go here: Two traffic lights sit in one segment and candidates collapse them into "the lights", destroying the fault picture. "ਸਾਢੇ ਚਾਰ" is half past four, not four, and a lost half hour is a lost mark.
- 3. Ms HardingEnglish Punjabi39 words
Your excess is $850, payable when you book the car in. If the other driver is found fully at fault, we recover from their insurer and refund the whole $850. If fault is shared, you only get $425 back.
tuhada excess $850 hai, jo car workshop vich den vele bharna painda hai. je dooja driver poori taran kasoorvaar nikleya, taan asin us di beema company ton vasool karke tuhanu poore $850 vaapas kar devaange. je kasoor dohaan da saanjha nikleya, taan tuhanu sirf $425 hi vaapas milange.
What must survive (6 marks of information)- the excess is $850
- it is payable when the car is booked in
- condition one: the other driver found fully at fault
- then the full $850 is refunded after recovery from their insurer
- condition two: fault is shared
- then only $425 comes back, not the whole excess
Terms in this segment- excess — ਐਕਸੈੱਸ excess
- at fault — ਕਸੂਰਵਾਰ kasoorvaar
- to recover money — ਵਸੂਲ ਕਰਨਾ vasool karna
- shared fault — ਸਾਂਝਾ ਕਸੂਰ saanjha kasoor
Where marks go here: This is the marked conditional of the paper. Candidates deliver one refund and one figure, usually "you get your money back", which wipes out the second branch and the $425. Both if-clauses and both dollar amounts are separately scoreable.
- 4. Mr SandhuPunjabi English35 words
dooje driver da naan Daniel Walker hai ate us di ute da number 1TK 6ZP hai. police mauke utte aayi si ate unhaan ne mainu event number 24/8871 ditta. do gavaahaan ne vi bayaan ditte.
Model interpretationThe other driver's name is Daniel Walker and his ute's registration is 1TK 6ZP. The police attended the scene and gave me event number 24/8871. Two witnesses also gave statements.
What must survive (5 marks of information)- other driver is Daniel Walker
- his ute's registration is 1TK 6ZP
- police attended the scene
- police event number 24/8871
- two witnesses gave statements
Terms in this segment- registration number — ਰਜਿਸਟ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਨ ਨੰਬਰ registration number
- police event number — ਪੁਲਿਸ ਇਵੈਂਟ ਨੰਬਰ police event number
- witness — ਗਵਾਹ gavaah
Where marks go here: Three strings of characters land in twenty seconds and candidates keep the name but garble the rego or the event number. Say each one back slowly and in full; a half-remembered 1TK is worth nothing to an assessor.
- 5. Ms HardingEnglish Punjabi37 words
I have recorded event number 24/8871. Now, a hire car is not automatic. It only comes with the optional extra, and your policy does not include it. You can add it, but not on an open claim.
main event number 24/8871 daraj kar liya hai. hun, hire car aapne aap nahin mildi. ih sirf vaadhu option naal aundi hai, ate tuhadi policy vich ih shaamal nahin hai. tusin ih jorh sakde ho, par khulhe claim dauraan nahin.
What must survive (6 marks of information)- the event number 24/8871 has been recorded
- a hire car is not automatic
- it comes only with the optional extra
- his policy does not include that extra
- he can add it later
- but not while a claim is open
Terms in this segment- hire car — ਹਾਇਰ ਕਾਰ hire car
- optional extra — ਵਾਧੂ ਆਪਸ਼ਨ vaadhu option
- open claim — ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹਾ ਕਲੇਮ khulha claim
Where marks go here: Candidates hear "hire car" and deliver good news. The segment is a refusal with a narrow exception, and dropping the final clause tells the client he can add cover today, which is the opposite of what was said.
- 6. Mr SandhuPunjabi English39 words
ih taan mere layi vaddi mushkal hai. main somvaar ton shukkarvaar takk truck depot jaan layi car vartda haan, bus utthe nahin jaandi. ki main car aapne mistri kol lai ja sakda haan? uh saade ghar de nerhe hai.
Model interpretationThat is a big problem for me. I use the car Monday to Friday to get to the truck depot, and the bus does not go there. Can I take the car to my own mechanic? He is near our house.
What must survive (6 marks of information)- says this is a big problem for him
- he uses the car Monday to Friday
- he drives to the truck depot
- the bus does not go there
- asks whether he can use his own mechanic
- the mechanic is near his house
Terms in this segment- truck depot — ਟਰੱਕ ਡਿਪੂ truck depot
- mechanic / repairer — ਮਿਸਤਰੀ mistri
Where marks go here: The five weekday span gets shortened to "every day", which is a different fact. The question at the end is the one the consultant must answer, so burying it inside the complaint about the bus costs the turn its purpose.
- 7. Ms HardingEnglish Punjabi40 words
You may use your own repairer, or one from our network. Either way, you must not authorise any repairs until our assessor has inspected the vehicle. Assessment takes three business days with our network, up to ten with your own.
tusin aapna mistri varat sakde ho, jaan saade network vaala. par dohaan haaltaan vich, jad takk saada assessor gaddi nahin dekh lainda, tusin kise vi murammat di manzoori nahin deni. saade network naal assessment tinn kamkaji dinaan vich hundi hai, aapne mistri naal das dinaan takk lagg sakdi hai.
What must survive (5 marks of information)- he may use his own repairer
- or one from the insurer's network
- he must not authorise repairs before the assessor inspects
- network assessment takes three business days
- his own repairer can take up to ten days
Terms in this segment- assessor — ਅਸੈੱਸਰ assessor
- to authorise repairs — ਮੁਰੰਮਤ ਦੀ ਮਨਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਦੇਣੀ murammat di manzoori deni
- business days — ਕੰਮਕਾਜੀ ਦਿਨ kamkaji din
Where marks go here: The modal flip is the trap: "you may" for the choice, "you must not" for the repairs. Candidates who render both as permission hand the client a green light to start work and lose the strongest instruction in the dialogue.
- 8. Mr SandhuPunjabi English40 words
theek hai, main tuhade network vaala hi lai lavaanga kiunki mainu car chheti chahidi hai. main ajj shaam nuksaan dian photoan email kar devaanga. par assessor nu kahi dio ki veervaar ton pahilan phone na kare, main shift utte haan.
Model interpretationAlright, I will go with your network repairer because I need the car back quickly. I will email the photos of the damage this evening. But please tell the assessor not to ring before Thursday, I am on shift.
What must survive (5 marks of information)- he chooses the insurer's network repairer
- his reason is that he needs the car back quickly
- he will email photos of the damage this evening
- asks that the assessor not ring before Thursday
- the reason is that he is on shift
Terms in this segment- damage — ਨੁਕਸਾਨ nuksaan
- Thursday — ਵੀਰਵਾਰ veervaar
- on shift — ਸ਼ਿਫ਼ਟ ਉੱਤੇ shift utte
Where marks go here: "ਵੀਰਵਾਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਨਾ" is a negative boundary and is regularly delivered as "call me on Thursday", which books a call on the wrong day. Keep the choice, the reason and the restriction as three separate pieces.
Register and cultural mediation in this dialogue
- An excess has no everyday Punjabi equivalent, and clients often assume it is a fine or a penalty for causing the accident. Keep the loanword ਐਕਸੈੱਸ and let the consultant's own explanation do the work rather than inventing a gloss the speaker did not give.
- A police event number is an Australian administrative reference, not a criminal charge. Clients who grew up with the FIR system in Punjab may hear it as a case being opened against them, so the interpreter must not import that word.
- The call is professional and one-directional in authority, so ਤੁਸੀਂ throughout, and ਸੰਧੂ ਜੀ rather than a bare surname. Dropping the ਜੀ makes a routine claims call sound curt in a way the English never was.

Meeting the Deputy Principal About Bullying
Your brief. Mrs Bains has been asked to meet the deputy principal of her son Arjun's secondary school after two bullying incidents in Year 8. The deputy sets out what was reported and when, the school's anti-bullying policy and the steps already taken, a wellbeing officer check-in, and how a formal warning differs from a suspension for the other student. You interpret the meeting in the deputy's office.
Speakers: Deputy principal of a Victorian secondary school (English) and Punjabi-speaking mother of a Year 8 student (Punjabi). You interpret for both.
- 1. Mr ElleryEnglish Punjabi35 words
Thanks for coming in, Mrs Bains. Arjun first reported this to his Year 8 coordinator on Monday the twentieth of July. There was a second incident at the bus bay on Wednesday the twenty second.
Model interpretation
aaun layi dhanvaad, Bains ji.
What must survive (6 marks of information)- thanks her for coming in
- Arjun reported it first, not the school
- the report went to the Year 8 coordinator
- first report was Monday 20 July
- a second incident happened at the bus bay
- the second incident was Wednesday 22 July
Terms in this segment- Year 8 coordinator — ਯੀਅਰ ਅੱਠ ਦਾ ਕੋਆਰਡੀਨੇਟਰ year atth da coordinator
- incident — ਘਟਨਾ ghatna
- bus bay — ਬੱਸ ਬੇਅ bus bay
Where marks go here: Two dates and two days of the week arrive in one breath and candidates keep only one. Monday the twentieth and Wednesday the twenty second are four separate scoreable items, and the bus bay is where the second one happened, not the first.
- 2. Mrs BainsPunjabi English38 words
par Arjun ne mainu do hafte pahilan hi dass ditta si. us ne lunch khaana chhadd ditta ate hun savere pet dard da bahaana banaunda hai. mera sawaal ih hai ki school ne mainu phone kiun nahin keeta?
Model interpretationBut Arjun told me two weeks before that. He stopped eating his lunch, and now in the mornings he makes an excuse about a stomach ache. My question is, why did the school not phone me?
What must survive (5 marks of information)- Arjun told her two weeks before the school report
- he stopped eating his lunch
- in the mornings he makes an excuse
- the excuse is a stomach ache
- she asks why the school did not phone her
Terms in this segment- to make an excuse — ਬਹਾਨਾ ਬਣਾਉਣਾ bahaana banauna
- stomach ache — ਪੇਟ ਦਰਦ pet dard
Where marks go here: "ਦੋ ਹਫ਼ਤੇ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ" is measured from the dates the deputy just gave, not from today. Rendering it as "a couple of weeks ago" quietly moves the timeline and loses the complaint the mother is actually making.
- 3. Mr ElleryEnglish Punjabi37 words
Our anti bullying policy requires every report to be logged within twenty four hours and investigated within five school days. We have taken statements from three students, changed Arjun's timetable, and added supervision at the bus bay.
saadi anti-bullying policy mutaabak har shikaayat chauvi ghantian de andar daraj honi chahidi hai ate panj schooli dinaan vich us di jaanch honi chahidi hai. asin tinn vidiaarthian de bayaan laye han, Arjun di timetable badli hai, ate bus bay utte nigraani vadhaayi hai.
What must survive (6 marks of information)- the school has an anti-bullying policy
- reports must be logged within twenty four hours
- investigation must happen within five school days
- statements taken from three students
- Arjun's timetable has been changed
- extra supervision added at the bus bay
Terms in this segment- anti-bullying policy — ਐਂਟੀ-ਬੁਲਿੰਗ ਪਾਲਿਸੀ anti-bullying policy
- to log a report — ਸ਼ਿਕਾਇਤ ਦਰਜ ਕਰਨੀ shikaayat daraj karni
- school days — ਸਕੂਲੀ ਦਿਨ schooli din
- supervision — ਨਿਗਰਾਨੀ nigraani
Where marks go here: Twenty four hours and five school days attach to two different obligations, logging and investigating, and swapping them is a factual error an assessor marks. "School days" is not "days"; term breaks and weekends are excluded.
- 4. Mrs BainsPunjabi English36 words
ki uh munda hun vi Arjun di jamaat vich hai? ate shanivaar raat nu us ne Snapchat utte chaar message bheje. main screenshot rakhe hoye han. ki school gharon hoyi gall utte kujh kar sakda hai?
Model interpretationIs that boy still in Arjun's class? And on Saturday night he sent four messages on Snapchat. I have kept the screenshots. Can the school do anything about something that happened from home?
What must survive (5 marks of information)- asks whether the boy is still in Arjun's class
- messages were sent on Saturday night
- four messages, on Snapchat
- she has kept the screenshots
- asks whether the school can act on out-of-hours contact
Terms in this segment- class / year group — ਜਮਾਤ jamaat
- screenshot — ਸਕਰੀਨਸ਼ਾਟ screenshot
- Saturday night — ਸ਼ਨੀਵਾਰ ਰਾਤ shanivaar raat
Where marks go here: Four messages becomes "some messages" and Saturday night disappears, which matters because the deputy's answer turns on whether the contact was at school or from home. Keep the platform name Snapchat as a proper noun.
- 5. Mr ElleryEnglish Punjabi37 words
They share only one class now, science, and they sit apart. Our wellbeing officer, Ms Tran, will see Arjun every Tuesday at eleven for six weeks, and she will send you a written summary at the end.
hun unhaan di sirf ikk jamaat saanjhi hai, science, ate uh vakh-vakh baithde han. saadi wellbeing afsar, Miss Tran, Arjun nu chhe hafte har mangalvaar giaaraan vaje milegi, ate akheer vich uh tuhanu likhti report bhejegi.
What must survive (6 marks of information)- they now share only one class
- that class is science
- they are seated apart
- the wellbeing officer is Ms Tran
- check-ins are every Tuesday at eleven for six weeks
- a written summary goes to the parent at the end
Terms in this segment- wellbeing officer — ਵੈੱਲਬੀਇੰਗ ਅਫ਼ਸਰ wellbeing afsar
- to sit apart — ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਬੈਠਣਾ vakh-vakh baithna
- written summary — ਲਿਖਤੀ ਰਿਪੋਰਟ likhti report
Where marks go here: "Only one class" is a limit, not a complaint, and candidates who drop "only" reverse the reassurance. The weekly day, the time and the six week span are three separate numbers; "she will see him regularly" scores none of them.
- 6. Mrs BainsPunjabi English36 words
giaaraan vaje taan us di maths di class hundi hai. ki uh gairhaazar giniya javega? ate sabh ton vaddi gall, dooje munde naal ki hovega? mere pati kahinde han ki us nu schoolon kadhna chahida hai.
Model interpretationEleven o'clock is his maths class. Will he be marked absent? And the biggest thing, what will happen to the other boy? My husband says he should be expelled from the school.
What must survive (5 marks of information)- eleven o'clock clashes with his maths class
- asks whether he will be marked absent
- asks what will happen to the other boy
- attributes the next view to her husband
- her husband wants the other boy expelled
Terms in this segment- marked absent — ਗ਼ੈਰਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਗਿਣਿਆ ਜਾਣਾ gairhaazar giniya jaana
- to expel from school — ਸਕੂਲੋਂ ਕੱਢਣਾ schoolon kadhna
Where marks go here: The expulsion demand belongs to the husband, not to her, and interpreters who drop "ਮੇਰੇ ਪਤੀ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ" put words in the mother's mouth in a meeting where attribution matters. Expelled is not the same as suspended.
- 7. Mr ElleryEnglish Punjabi39 words
He has a formal warning. That sits on his file until the end of the year, but he stays in class. A suspension removes him for up to three days and needs a re-entry meeting. Any repeat triggers one.
us nu rasmi chetavni ditti gayi hai. uh saal de ant takk us di file vich rahegi, par uh jamaat vich hi rahega. suspension vich us nu tinn dinaan takk schoolon hata ditta jaanda hai ate vaapsi ton pahilan meeting zaroori hundi hai. dubaara kujh hoya taan suspension hovegi.
What must survive (6 marks of information)- the other student has received a formal warning
- the warning stays on his file until the end of the year
- he remains in class under a warning
- a suspension removes him for up to three days
- a suspension requires a re-entry meeting
- a repeat incident triggers a suspension
Terms in this segment- formal warning — ਰਸਮੀ ਚੇਤਾਵਨੀ rasmi chetavni
Where marks go here: This is the paper's second big omission trap. A formal warning and a suspension are two distinct outcomes with different consequences, and candidates who deliver "he has been punished" lose the file record, the three days, the re-entry meeting and the threshold for escalation.
- 8. Mrs BainsPunjabi English34 words
theek hai. main chahundi haan ki asin shukkarvaar 4 satambar nu dubaara miliye ate saari gall di sameekhia kariye. ki tusin mainu policy punjabi vich bhej sakde ho? mere pati ne vi parhni hai.
Model interpretationAlright. I would like us to meet again on Friday the fourth of September and review the whole thing. Can you send me the policy in Punjabi? My husband needs to read it too.
What must survive (5 marks of information)- she accepts what has been explained
- asks for a review meeting
- the date is Friday 4 September
- asks for the policy in Punjabi
- her husband also wants to read it
Terms in this segment- to review — ਸਮੀਖਿਆ ਕਰਨੀ sameekhia karni
- Friday — ਸ਼ੁੱਕਰਵਾਰ shukkarvaar
- September — ਸਤੰਬਰ satambar
Where marks go here: This is the fourth date in the dialogue and it is the one that goes in the diary. Candidates who have already handled 20 July, 22 July and the Tuesday check-ins tend to lose the day name or the month here.
Register and cultural mediation in this dialogue
- Suspension and expulsion collapse into one idea in a lot of community talk, and a parent who hears ਸਕੂਲੋਂ ਕੱਢਣਾ for a three day suspension will leave the meeting with a false picture. Keep ਸਸਪੈਂਸ਼ਨ for the temporary removal and reserve ਕੱਢਣਾ for expulsion.
- The deputy addresses the mother as Mrs Bains; in Punjabi the natural equivalent is ਬੈਂਸ ਜੀ with ਤੁਸੀਂ throughout. A parent who is upset may still be spoken to formally, and the interpreter must not soften the school's register into family speech.
- The mother routes her strongest demand through her husband, which is a common way of raising a hard position without owning it. That attribution is content, not padding, and interpreting it away changes who is asking for the boy to be expelled.

Marking yourself is the slow way
It works, and it is free — but it takes twenty minutes per dialogue and it depends on you being honest about what you actually said. Inside the course you record your answer, and it is transcribed and scored against the model automatically, segment by segment, with the information you dropped highlighted. 112 dialogues across every CCL domain, unlimited scored mock tests, and a vocabulary bank that resurfaces the terms you keep missing.
No card to start. The free papers here stay free either way.
Questions about this mock test
- How do I interpret an insurance excess into Punjabi if there is no equivalent word?
- Keep the English loanword ਐਕਸੈੱਸ, which Australian Punjabi speakers already use with insurers, and let the consultant's own explanation carry the meaning. Inventing a gloss like fine or penalty adds information the speaker never gave and assessors mark it as distortion.
- Does the NAATI CCL test really include dollar amounts that change with a condition?
- Yes, and this paper is built on one. Segment three gives an $850 excess refunded in full if the other driver is fully at fault, but only $425 back if fault is shared. Both branches and both figures are separately scoreable, so delivering a single outcome costs several marks.
- What happens if I miss a date in a school dialogue?
- Each date is an information unit. Dialogue two carries four of them: the 20 July report, the 22 July bus bay incident, the weekly Tuesday check-ins and the 4 September review meeting. Losing the day name or the month on any one of them is a straight deduction, not a rounding error.
- Should I keep English school terms like wellbeing officer and formal warning in Punjabi?
- Keep them recognisable. A parent needs to be able to ask the school for the anti-bullying policy or the wellbeing officer by name, so the English term should survive with a short natural rendering around it. Substituting a Punjabi paraphrase that no school would recognise fails the client.
- How do I handle may versus must not in the repairer segment?
- Render them as two different strengths. The consultant grants a choice of repairer with may, then imposes a prohibition with must not authorise repairs before the assessor inspects. Flattening both into one permissive verb tells the client to start work early and is one of the most costly single-word errors in the paper.
- Is it wrong to leave out that the mother is quoting her husband?
- Yes. In segment six the demand to expel the other student is attributed to the husband, not made by the mother. Interpreters render everything in the first person, but the attribution inside the speech is content and dropping it misrepresents who holds that position in a meeting where that matters.
