Free NAATI CCL Punjabi Mock Test 15: Family Mediation and Superannuation
This is the hardest paper in our free set. We built it around two things assessors quietly punish: a professional stating that she is neutral and decides nothing, and a warning that consolidating your super can cancel the insurance inside it. If you can carry both without softening them, you can carry anything the real test throws at you.
What this paper is built to expose
Advanced — legal, clinical or financial terminology under load. Every mock test in this library is written around specific, nameable failure points rather than being a random conversation — so the score you get tells you what to fix, not just whether you passed.
- 1Holding a neutrality statement together: neutral, does not take sides, decides nothing, gives no legal advice
- 2Rendering a confidentiality exception at full strength instead of turning "the law requires me" into "I might have to"
- 3Keeping a genuine warning as a warning, so the client hears that closing an account cancels the cover that day
- 4Separating two documents that sound alike: a parenting plan that is signed but unenforceable, and binding consent orders
- 5Carrying five dollar figures and three ages across a dialogue without letting any of them drift
Sit the test
Model answers stay hidden until each dialogue is finished. Afterwards you mark yourself against 82 individual information units and the same 36-plus-9 split NAATI uses. The full transcript is further down the page whenever you want it — but read it before you sit, and the number stops meaning anything.
16 segments. Two dialogues. One take.
This runner keeps every model answer hidden until you finish a dialogue — the full transcript is further down the page, and reading it first is the one thing that makes your score meaningless. Interpret every segment out loud, as if someone is waiting for the meaning. Then mark yourself against the real criteria: 36 marks for accuracy, 9 for language quality, per dialogue.
Free, no account, nothing to install. Your score is saved on this device only.
Before you start
- Speak, do not think itInterpreting silently is a different skill from producing sound under pressure.
- Do not pause the segmentThe real test does not wait. Pausing turns a measurement into a rehearsal.
- Record yourself if you canYour phone's voice memo app is enough. It is the only way to hear your own hesitations.
- Mark harshlyAn assessor who has never met you certainly will.
How this mock test is scored
NAATI marks each CCL dialogue out of 45, split into two things that are assessed separately. The self-marking above mirrors that split exactly, which is what makes the number comparable to a real result rather than a guess.
Every fact, number, name, qualifier and instruction that has to cross into the other language. Omit one and it is gone; change one and it costs you again, because a distorted fact is worse than a missing one for the person relying on you.
Fluency, grammar and vocabulary, and register. This is where two candidates who conveyed identical content end up several marks apart — one sounded like an interpreter, the other sounded like they were guessing.
The rule that catches people: you need 63 out of 90 overall and at least 29 out of 45 on each dialogue. A brilliant family & relationships dialogue cannot rescue a weak insurance & super one. How CCL scoring really works.
Full transcript with model answers
Both dialogues in full: the source speech, the model interpretation in Gurmukhi with transliteration, the information units an assessor is counting, and the specific error each segment tends to produce.
Family Mediation After a Separation
Your brief. A Punjabi-speaking father attends an intake session at a family relationship centre in outer Melbourne three months after separating from his wife. The practitioner explains what mediation is and is not, what stays confidential, what does not, and what the couple can end up with on paper. The father wants to know who will decide where his two children live.
Speakers: Ms Halloran, family dispute resolution practitioner (English) and Mr Dhaliwal, a separated father of two (Punjabi). You interpret for both.
- 1. Ms HalloranEnglish Punjabi38 words
I am a family dispute resolution practitioner, and my role is neutral. I do not take sides, I do not decide anything, and I cannot give either of you legal advice. You two make the decisions, not me.
main family dispute resolution practitioner haan, ate meri bhoomika nirpakkh hai. main kise da pakkh nahin laindi, main koi faisla nahin kardi, ate main tuhade dohaan vichon kise nu vi kanooni salaah nahin de sakdi. faisle tusin dovein karoge, main nahin.
What must survive (6 marks of information)- she is a family dispute resolution practitioner
- her role is neutral
- she does not take sides
- she does not decide anything
- she cannot give either of them legal advice
- the two parties make the decisions
Terms in this segment- neutral / impartial — ਨਿਰਪੱਖ nirpakkh
- to take sides — ਪੱਖ ਲੈਣਾ pakkh laina
- legal advice — ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਸਲਾਹ kanooni salaah
Where marks go here: Neutrality is stated four separate ways here and each one is a mark. Candidates compress the lot into a warm "I am here to help you both" and lose three units, including the legal-advice disclaimer that the practitioner is professionally obliged to say.
- 2. Mr DhaliwalPunjabi English40 words
mere saale ne kiha si ki vichola faisla karda hai ki bachche kis kol rehnge. je tusin faisla nahin karde, tan fir ki hovega? asin tinn mahine ton vakh reh rahe haan ate bachche naun ate panj saal de han.
Model interpretationMy wife's brother told me that the mediator is the one who decides who the children live with. If you do not decide, then what happens? We have been living apart for three months, and the children are nine and five.
What must survive (5 marks of information)- his wife's brother told him this
- he believed the mediator decides where the children live
- asks what happens if she does not decide
- separated for three months
- children are nine and five
Terms in this segment- wife's brother / brother-in-law — ਸਾਲਾ saala
- mediator — ਵਿਚੋਲਾ vichola
- living apart / separated — ਵੱਖ ਰਹਿਣਾ vakh rehna
Where marks go here: ਸਾਲਾ is specifically the wife's brother. "My brother" or a vague "my relative" loses the relationship the assessor is listening for. The second trap is the pair of ages: nine and five are two marks, and "two young children" is zero.
- 3. Ms HalloranEnglish Punjabi40 words
Nobody here decides for you. If you cannot agree, I issue a certificate, and you must have that certificate before you can apply to the court. Everything we discuss is measured against one thing: the best interests of the children.
ithe koi vi tuhade layi faisla nahin karda. je tusin sehmat na ho sake, tan main ikk certificate jaari kardi haan, ate adaalat vich arzi den ton pahilan tuhade kol uh certificate hona zaroori hai. asin jo vi gall karde haan, uh ikko gall utte parkhi jandi hai: bachchian da sab ton vadhia hitt.
What must survive (5 marks of information)- nobody in the room decides for them
- a certificate is issued only if they cannot agree
- the certificate must be held before applying to court
- everything discussed is measured against one thing
- that one thing is the best interests of the children
Terms in this segment- certificate (from mediation) — ਸਰਟੀਫਿਕੇਟ certificate
- to apply (to a court) — ਅਰਜ਼ੀ ਦੇਣੀ arzi deni
Where marks go here: Two structures collide in one segment. "If you cannot agree" is a condition, and "you must have that certificate before you can apply" is an obligation plus a sequence. Candidates flatten it to "you can get a certificate and go to court", which loses the condition, the must, and the ordering.
- 4. Mr DhaliwalPunjabi English40 words
pichhle hafte uhde vakeel di chitthi aayi si. je main ithe kujh keh ditta jo uhnu pasand na aave, tan ki uhda vakeel adaalat vich mere khilaaf vart sakda hai? khullh ke bolan ton pahilan mainu ih jaanna zaroori hai.
Model interpretationA letter came from her lawyer last week. If I say something here that she does not like, can her lawyer use it against me in court? I need to know that before I speak openly.
What must survive (4 marks of information)- a letter from her lawyer arrived last week
- conditional: if he says something she does not like
- asks whether her lawyer can use it against him in court
- he needs to know before he speaks openly
Terms in this segment- lawyer — ਵਕੀਲ vakeel
- against me — ਮੇਰੇ ਖ਼ਿਲਾਫ਼ mere khilaaf
- to speak openly — ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਬੋਲਣਾ khullh ke bolna
Where marks go here: The letter came from her lawyer, and it is the lawyer who might use his words. Candidates make it "my wife sent me a letter" and "she can use it against me", losing the professional party twice over.
- 5. Ms HalloranEnglish Punjabi40 words
What you say here is confidential, and it generally cannot be used as evidence in court. But there is one exception. If I believe a child is at risk of harm or abuse, the law requires me to report it.
jo tusin ithe kehnde ho, uh gupt rehnda hai, ate aam taur utte adaalat vich saboot vajon nahin vartia ja sakda. par ikk gall vich chhoot hai. je mainu lagda hai ki kise bachche nu nuksaan jaan shoshan da khatra hai, tan kanoon mutabak mainu is di report karni paindi hai.
What must survive (5 marks of information)- what is said here is confidential
- generally cannot be used as evidence in court
- there is one exception
- if she believes a child is at risk of harm or abuse
- the law requires her to report it
Terms in this segment- confidential — ਗੁਪਤ gupt
- evidence — ਸਬੂਤ saboot
- exception — ਛੋਟ chhoot
- at risk of harm — ਨੁਕਸਾਨ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਤਰਾ nuksaan da khatra
Where marks go here: This is the segment the whole dialogue is built on. Candidates soften the exception into "then maybe I would have to tell someone", which drops the legal obligation, and they also drop "generally", turning a qualified protection into an absolute promise. Two errors, both serious.
- 6. Mr DhaliwalPunjabi English35 words
main samajh gia. par main uhde naal ikko kamre vich nahin baithna chahunda. pichhli vaar asin bachchian de saahmne larh paye si. ki koi hor tareeka hai? ate akheer vich sanu kaagaz utte ki milega?
Model interpretationI understand. But I do not want to sit in the same room as her. Last time we ended up arguing in front of the children. Is there another way? And what do we get on paper at the end?
What must survive (5 marks of information)- he says he understands
- does not want to sit in the same room as her
- last time they argued in front of the children
- asks whether there is another way
- asks what they end up with on paper
Terms in this segment- in the same room — ਇੱਕੋ ਕਮਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ikko kamre vich
- in front of the children — ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ bachchian de saahmne
- to argue / to quarrel — ਲੜ ਪੈਣਾ larh paina
Where marks go here: "ਇੱਕੋ ਕਮਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ" is the same room, not the same house or the same table, and the argument happened in front of the children, which is why the practitioner offers separate attendance. Lose that detail and her next answer arrives unmotivated.
- 7. Ms HalloranEnglish Punjabi39 words
You may attend separately: I move between two rooms, or we use the phone. If you reach agreement, we write a parenting plan. It is signed and dated, but not legally enforceable. For that you apply for consent orders.
tusin vakhre vi baith sakde ho: main do kamrian vichaale aundi jandi rehndi haan, jaan asin phone utte kar sakde haan. je tuhadi sehmati ban jandi hai, tan asin parenting plan likhange. us utte dastkhat ate tareekh hundi hai, par uh kanooni taur utte laagoo nahin karvaaia ja sakda. us layi tusin consent orders vaaste arzi dinde ho.
What must survive (6 marks of information)- they may attend separately
- she moves between two rooms, or it is done by phone
- an agreement is written up as a parenting plan
- the plan is signed and dated
- the plan is not legally enforceable
- consent orders are what make it enforceable
Terms in this segment- parenting plan — ਪੇਰੈਂਟਿੰਗ ਪਲਾਨ parenting plan
Where marks go here: The negative is the mark. "Signed and dated, but not legally enforceable" becomes "it is an official signed document" and the client walks out believing the opposite of what he was told. Also note the modal shift: he may attend separately, whereas the certificate earlier was a must.
- 8. Mr DhaliwalPunjabi English39 words
theek hai, main vakhre kamre vala tareeka chahunda haan. dastkhat karan ton pahilan main plan likhti roop vich parhna chahanga. je uh mann jandi hai, tan agli meeting September de pahile hafte rakh lavo. shukarvaar mere layi theek hai.
Model interpretationAll right, I want the separate rooms option. Before I sign, I would like to read the plan in writing. If she agrees, please book the next meeting for the first week of September. Friday suits me.
What must survive (5 marks of information)- he chooses the separate rooms option
- wants to read the plan in writing before signing
- conditional on her agreeing
- next meeting in the first week of September
- Friday suits him
Terms in this segment- in writing — ਲਿਖਤੀ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ likhti roop vich
- to sign — ਦਸਤਖ਼ਤ ਕਰਨੇ dastkhat karne
- to agree / to consent — ਮੰਨ ਜਾਣਾ mann jaana
Where marks go here: Three scheduling facts sit in the last two sentences: first week of September, Friday, and the condition "if she agrees". Tired candidates render only the month. The sequencing of "before I sign" is also scoreable and routinely disappears.
Register and cultural mediation in this dialogue
- The practitioner and the client stay on ਤੁਸੀਂ throughout. A separated client under stress may slip into blunt speech about his wife, but the interpreter renders the content faithfully without adopting his tone or adding ਜੀ where he used none.
- Punjabi kinship terms are precise where English is vague: ਸਾਲਾ is the wife's brother, ਜੀਜਾ the sister's husband. Rendering ਸਾਲਾ as a flat "brother-in-law" is acceptable but "my wife's brother" is safer, because the assessor is checking that you heard which side of the family gave the advice.
- Family dispute resolution has no clean Punjabi equivalent. Community ਪੰਚਾਇਤ style mediation involves elders who do give a verdict, which is exactly the model the client has in his head, so the practitioner's insistence that she decides nothing must survive the interpretation intact.

Consolidating Super and the Insurance Inside It
Your brief. A fifty-four year old Punjabi-speaking woman who has worked across several labour hire jobs meets a superannuation fund consultant in Adelaide. She wants to put four accounts into one and stop paying four sets of fees. The consultant finds missing employer contributions and, more importantly, insurance cover sitting inside one of the accounts she was about to close.
Speakers: Ms Reilly, superannuation fund consultant (English) and Mrs Sahota, a warehouse worker aged 54 (Punjabi). You interpret for both.
- 1. Ms ReillyEnglish Punjabi40 words
Your search on myGov shows four super accounts. Every fund charges its own administration fee and insurance premium, so you are paying those costs four times over on one lifetime of savings. That is roughly six hundred dollars a year.
myGov utte keeti khoj dikhaundi hai ki tuhade chaar super khaate han. har fund apni prabandhki fees ate beeme da premium lainda hai, is layi tusin ikko bachat utte ih kharche chaar vaar de rahe ho. ih saal de takreeban chhe sau dollar bande han.
What must survive (5 marks of information)- the myGov search shows four super accounts
- each fund charges an administration fee
- each fund also charges an insurance premium
- the costs are being paid four times over
- roughly six hundred dollars a year
Terms in this segment- super account — ਸੁਪਰ ਖਾਤਾ super khaata
- administration fee — ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕੀ ਫ਼ੀਸ prabandhki fees
- premium — ਪ੍ਰੀਮੀਅਮ premium
Where marks go here: There are two separate charges, a fee and a premium, and candidates merge them into "fees". The premium matters because it is the thread that leads to the insurance warning later; drop it now and the warning lands with no set-up.
- 2. Mrs SahotaPunjabi English38 words
mainu pata hi nahin si. har navin naukri utte company ne navan khaata kholh ditta. vadde khaate vich 46,200 dollar han, ikk vich 3,800 dollar, ate ikk vich sirf 1,150 dollar. ki main baaki tinnon band kar devan?
Model interpretationI had no idea. Every time I started a new job the company opened a new account. The big account has $46,200, one has $3,800, and one has only $1,150. Should I close the other three?
What must survive (6 marks of information)- she did not know about the duplicate fees
- each new employer opened a new account
- the largest balance is $46,200
- another holds $3,800
- a third holds only $1,150
- she asks whether to close the other three
Terms in this segment- to open an account — ਖਾਤਾ ਖੋਲ੍ਹਣਾ khaata kholhna
- balance / amount in the account — ਖਾਤੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਕਮ khaate vich rakam
- to close — ਬੰਦ ਕਰਨਾ band karna
Where marks go here: Three balances in one breath, and the two small ones are the ones candidates swap or round. $3,800 and $1,150 are separate marks, and "a couple of small accounts" scores nothing at all.
- 3. Ms ReillyEnglish Punjabi38 words
We will combine them, but first look at what is going in. Your employer must pay twelve per cent of your ordinary earnings into super. Your fund has received nothing since March, so you are about $1,900 short.
asin ih khaate ikatthe kar devange, par pahilan ih dekho ki andar ki aa riha hai. tuhade maalak nu tuhadi aam tankhaah da baaran feesdi super vich paauna laazmi hai. tuhade fund nu March ton baad kujh nahin milia, so takreeban 1,900 dollar ghatt han.
What must survive (5 marks of information)- the accounts will be combined
- but contributions are checked first
- the employer must pay twelve per cent of ordinary earnings
- nothing has been received since March
- she is about $1,900 short
Terms in this segment- employer — ਮਾਲਕ maalak
- twelve per cent — ਬਾਰਾਂ ਫ਼ੀਸਦੀ baaran feesdi
- ordinary earnings — ਆਮ ਤਨਖ਼ਾਹ aam tankhaah
- compulsory / required — ਲਾਜ਼ਮੀ laazmi
Where marks go here: Twelve per cent is an obligation, not a suggestion: "the employer should put in about twelve per cent" loses the modal. And March is the cut-off date, not the month the payments started, which candidates reverse surprisingly often.
- 4. Mrs SahotaPunjabi English39 words
meri pay slip utte tan super likhia hunda hai, par main kade check nahin keeta ki paisa pahunchia vi hai jaan nahin. main slippaan lai ke aavangi. hun dasso, ki main baaki tinn khaate ajj hi band kar devan?
Model interpretationMy payslip does show super, but I have never checked whether the money actually arrived. I will bring the payslips in. Now tell me, can I close the other three accounts today?
What must survive (4 marks of information)- her payslip does show super
- she never checked whether the money arrived
- she will bring the payslips in
- asks to close the other three accounts today
Terms in this segment- payslip — ਪੇਅ ਸਲਿੱਪ pay slip
- to check — ਚੈੱਕ ਕਰਨਾ check karna
- to arrive (of money) — ਪਹੁੰਚਣਾ pahunchna
Where marks go here: The contrast between what the payslip says and what the fund received is the whole point of her turn. Candidates render it as "my payslip is fine", which erases the complication the consultant just raised.
- 5. Ms ReillyEnglish Punjabi40 words
Please stop before you close anything. One of those accounts carries insurance inside super: life cover and total and permanent disability cover. The day you close the account, that cover is cancelled. At fifty-four, a new insurer may refuse you.
kujh vi band karan ton pahilan ruko. uhnaan vichon ikk khaate vich super de andar beema hai: jeevan beema ate poori te pakki apangta da beema. jis din tusin khaata band karoge, use din uh beema radd ho javega. 54 saal di umar vich navin beema company tuhanu naanh vi kar sakdi hai.
What must survive (5 marks of information)- stop before closing anything
- one of the accounts carries insurance inside super
- the cover is life insurance and total and permanent disability
- closing the account cancels the cover that day
- at fifty-four a new insurer may refuse her
Terms in this segment- insurance inside super — ਸੁਪਰ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਬੀਮਾ super de andar beema
- life cover — ਜੀਵਨ ਬੀਮਾ jeevan beema
- total and permanent disability — ਪੂਰੀ ਤੇ ਪੱਕੀ ਅਪੰਗਤਾ poori te pakki apangta
- to be cancelled — ਰੱਦ ਹੋਣਾ radd hona
Where marks go here: This is a warning and it must sound like one. Candidates report it flatly as "there is also some insurance in those accounts" and drop the consequence entirely. The two cover types are separate marks, and "may refuse you" is a possibility, not a certainty; upgrading it to "will refuse you" is its own error.
- 6. Mrs SahotaPunjabi English40 words
mainu pata hi nahin si ki mera beema hai. meri lakk dian do surgeryaan ho chukkian han, so navin company shaid manhaa kar deve. kihre khaate vich beema hai? ki main uhi rakh ke baaki us vich pa sakdi haan?
Model interpretationI did not even know I had insurance. I have already had two operations on my lower back, so a new company would probably turn me down. Which account holds the cover? Can I keep that one and move the others into it?
What must survive (5 marks of information)- she did not know she had insurance
- she has had two operations on her lower back
- a new company would probably refuse her
- asks which account holds the cover
- asks whether she can keep that one and move the others into it
Terms in this segment- lower back — ਲੱਕ lakk
- surgery / operation — ਸਰਜਰੀ surgery
- to refuse — ਮਨ੍ਹਾ ਕਰਨਾ manhaa karna
Where marks go here: ਲੱਕ is the lower back, not the leg and not the neck. Two surgeries is a number the assessor ticks, and "ਸ਼ਾਇਦ" is probably, not definitely, so it has to stay hedged in English too.

Yes, keep the fund with the cover and roll the other three into it. A binding death benefit nomination must be witnessed and renewed every three years, otherwise the trustee decides who receives your money. Your preservation age is sixty.
haan, jis fund vich beema hai uhi rakho ate baaki tinn use vich pa dio. binding death benefit naamzadgi utte gawaahaan de dastkhat hone laazmi han ate isnu har tinn saal baad naviaauna painda hai, nahin tan trustee faisla karega ki tuhada paisa kis nu milega. tuhadi preservation umar 60 saal hai.
What must survive (6 marks of information)- keep the fund that holds the cover
- roll the other three into it
- a binding nomination must be witnessed
- it must be renewed every three years
- otherwise the trustee decides who receives the money
- her preservation age is sixty
Terms in this segment- binding death benefit nomination — ਬਾਈਂਡਿੰਗ ਡੈੱਥ ਬੈਨੇਫ਼ਿਟ ਨਾਮਜ਼ਦਗੀ binding death benefit naamzadgi
- trustee — ਟਰੱਸਟੀ trustee
- to renew — ਨਵਿਆਉਣਾ naviaauna
- preservation age — ਪ੍ਰੀਜ਼ਰਵੇਸ਼ਨ ਉਮਰ preservation umar
Where marks go here: Three obligations and a consequence in one segment. The renewal period is three years, not three months, and the fallback is the trustee deciding, not the family deciding. Candidates who have never heard "binding death benefit nomination" invent "a will", which is a different document with a different effect.

so main 60 saal ton pahilan ikk paisa vi nahin kadh sakdi. je main 60 ton baad retire ho javaan jaan 65 saal di ho javaan, tan hi milega? main agle hafte slippaan ate naamzadgi vala form lai ke aavangi.
Model interpretationSo I cannot take out a single dollar before sixty. I only get it if I retire after sixty, or once I turn sixty-five? I will bring the payslips and the nomination form in next week.
What must survive (5 marks of information)- she cannot take anything out before sixty
- checks that access follows retiring after sixty
- or turning sixty-five
- she will bring the payslips next week
- she will bring the nomination form next week
Terms in this segment- to withdraw / take out — ਕੱਢਣਾ kadhna
- to retire — ਰਿਟਾਇਰ ਹੋਣਾ retire hona
Where marks go here: Sixty and sixty-five are two different conditions and candidates average them into "when I am about sixty". She is also asking a question, not stating a fact, so the rising check "is that right?" should survive as a question in English.
Register and cultural mediation in this dialogue
- Superannuation has no Punjabi equivalent and should stay as "super". Older clients often map it onto a village pension or onto savings that a spouse simply inherits, which is exactly why the binding nomination and the preservation age have to be rendered precisely rather than paraphrased as "your retirement money".
- Punjabi speakers count in ਲੱਖ and ਹਜ਼ਾਰ. If a client says ਇੱਕ ਲੱਖ you must deliver one hundred thousand dollars in English, and when going the other way you may keep Australian figures as ਹਜ਼ਾਰ rather than converting to lakhs. Number systems are the single most common source of lost marks in financial dialogues.
- The consultant addresses the client as ਤੁਸੀਂ and gives a direct warning without hedging. Do not add ਜੀ ਜੀ or apologetic softeners to make the warning politer; a consumer warning that arrives softened has been mistranslated, and assessors mark it as a distortion rather than a style choice.

Marking yourself is the slow way
It works, and it is free — but it takes twenty minutes per dialogue and it depends on you being honest about what you actually said. Inside the course you record your answer, and it is transcribed and scored against the model automatically, segment by segment, with the information you dropped highlighted. 112 dialogues across every CCL domain, unlimited scored mock tests, and a vocabulary bank that resurfaces the terms you keep missing.
No card to start. The free papers here stay free either way.
Questions about this mock test
- Does the NAATI CCL test really include family mediation, or does it stay with health and Centrelink?
- Legal and family scenarios appear regularly. Family dispute resolution is a favourite because it forces the interpreter to carry a professional's disclaimers word for word: neutrality, no legal advice, confidentiality and its limits. That is exactly what an assessor can mark objectively.
- How do I interpret confidentiality when the practitioner immediately names an exception?
- Render both halves at full strength and in order. Say that what is discussed is confidential and generally cannot be used as evidence, then say that if she believes a child is at risk of harm or abuse the law requires her to report it. Never soften a legal obligation into a possibility, and never drop the word generally.
- Do I need to know what a section 60I certificate is before I sit this paper?
- You do not need the section number, but you must understand the concept, because the sentence is built as an obligation with a sequence: you must hold the certificate before you can apply to the court. If you do not know why a certificate exists, you will paraphrase it into something optional and lose the modal.
- Should I translate superannuation into Punjabi or keep the English word?
- Keep super. Every Punjabi speaker in Australia says it, and inventing a Sanskritised equivalent makes you harder to understand, not more accurate. The same applies to myGov, trustee and TPD. Keep the English term and add a short Punjabi gloss the first time if the client seems lost.
- The client talks about lakhs and the consultant talks about thousands. Do I convert?
- Yes, always convert into the number system the listener uses. One lakh becomes one hundred thousand dollars going into English, and Australian dollar figures stay in thousands going into Punjabi. Repeating lakh to an Australian consultant, or leaving a raw figure unconverted, is treated as an accuracy error and not as a stylistic choice.
- Why is this paper marked advanced rather than intermediate?
- Because both dialogues turn on wording that candidates instinctively smooth over. Dialogue one asks you to keep a neutrality statement and a mandatory reporting exception intact; dialogue two asks you to deliver a warning that closing an account cancels life and disability cover. Softening any of those is a distortion, which costs far more than a missed noun.
